Copy of documents: Asking a prospective tenant for a copy of their passport and personal data is a possible sign of a scam. Fraudsters use these details to commit identity theft or to sell to other scammers.

Communication in bad English: Scammers operate in organized international groups. Since the criminals operate in different countries around the world, they generally write to their victims in English. Be especially attentive to messages in bad English.

Upfront payments: Criminals try to trick you into making advance payments. Please transfer deposit or pre-payments only when you have seen the apartment and met the landlord.
- Promise to send keys by post: Often scammers will say that they are overseas and cannot show you the flat, but that if you deposit a small amount of money into an account they will send you the keys by post. Never do this, you will lose your money and never receive the keys, it is a sure sign of a scam.
