We are long term renting a large room in our 3 people shared flat, as of July 1st. The room is very bright with wooden floors and high ceilings, and some furniture can be bought back from the old roommate (bed, mattress, dresser...). Otherwise, 1st floor is quite practical to move stuff :)
Our apartment is located in the cosmopolitan area of Neukölln, less than 10 min away by foot from the Sbahn Sonnenallee (ring bahn going all around Berlin) and the U7 Karl Marx Strasse. We have the bus M41 just downstairs, which will lead you to the U8 Hermannplatz in 5 minutes, Postdamer Platz in 25, and the Central Station in 35. The bus 171 is also passing in front of the apartment, and is going straight to Schönefeld airport (Terminal 5).
There are lots of shops, bars, restaurants and clubs in the surroundings, along with some Spätis. We also have a Rewe just around the corner, a Lidl and Netto 5 minutes walking distance and a BioCompany easily reachable in 5 min with the M41.
We are Thomas, Brazilian, and Olga, French, and we've been living in Germany for a few years now. Thomas is preparing a Phd in physics and Olga works in a tech company. We can get a bit nerdy about (in no particular order) alternative medicines, history, physics, health, nutrition, travel, sport, food, tea, fantasy, sci-fi, the future (or doom) of the world... and TV shows! We also own quite a collection of boardgames, and it's definitely a plus if you enjoy boardgames :P We're close to be 100% vegetarian at home — it's not a problem if you're not, but it might not be the best fit if you're cooking meat every single night.
We're both quite busy on week days so we're relaxed regarding the flatshare life. We're looking for someone we get along well with, who has similar interests and with whom we can spend time with every now and then, but it's not the type of flat where we'll be eating or watching movies together every night. It's also not a party flat — we regularly have friends around for diner or over for a few days (obviously less in time of corona), but we are both working so it's overall a quiet apartment. This is even more important now that we're working from home a lot.
When it comes to the flatshare organisation, our motto is "be the change you seek", meaning that we don't wait for ages to clean the bathroom, buy toilet paper or fix this broken thing just because we "already did it last time". Which also doesn't mean it should always be the same person doing it, just that we all have lives and it's hard to stick to a strict cleaning rotating schedule (we do have a "reverse schedule" where we keep track of who does what). The important point is that we clean after ourselves and keep the common areas tidy, communicate well and overall do our best so that things work out mostly by themselves.
The apartment is furnished with all the basic stuff (cooking equipment, washing machine, wi-fi...). Rent is 485€ warm, with a 800€ deposit. We're aware it can be a lot of money to pay at once, so it's totally ok to pay the deposit in 2 or 3 times.
This is a long term lease and you will be added on the renting contract (meaning you can do your Anmeldung). Please write "giant panda" at the beginning of your message, so that we're sure you actually read our posting :) We won't open emails without this title as unfortunately we cannot read 1000 emails a day. Please also send us a quick introduction, letting us know what you do in Berlin, who you are, what you enjoy, etc... and why you feel we'd be a good fit.
Visits will be in the upcoming weeks, ideally starting this week-end already. Looking forward to hear from you :)
