- See images and plan
- ~3,89m x ~5,35m x 3,10m (height)
- Room has two windows on the shorter side, a small one on the side and a small storage room (which is pretty useful)
- no balcony attached to the room, but you are welcome to join Annika on her balcony anytime
- "Altbau", high ceiling
- The floor is made from wood and sometimes makes noise (Holzdielen).
- Your room will be completely empty and freshly painted when you move in.
- Internet is included in the rent, your share of the GEZ is not included (about 7 € ?).
- Connectivity: 450m in the east is the U+S Hermannstraße (U8, Ringbahn, various busses).
- Nature: 600m to the west is the Tempelhofer Feld (for walking, picknicks, jogging, etc.).
- Noise: It's never really "lonely", there's always someone walking down the street. But it's also not loud. While I can hear cars, even if the window is closed, it's never disturbing me. When the window is open, one can hear the train on silent days.
- Food and groceries: Rewe, Netto, Aldi and other shops are less than 500m away. Also various small restaurants and food shops, some of which are open 24/7.
- Also really close to Schillerkiez. :)
CLEANING AND MESSINESS: This is a really important thing we care about. In Steve's experience, there are two modes:
- Mode 1 is that the default answer is "I'll clean later", which never works and means that everywhere is in a constant state of disgustingness and messiness. Which Steve really does not want to live in (again).
- Mode 2 is that the default approach is "I've entered the bathroom, so let me see what is dirty and what I can clean!", resulting in a wonderfully clean apartment.
Our standards include:
- No stains or breadcrums on kitchen-tables (only water-stains),
- certainly no sticky stains on the floor,
- no flies from the garbage,
- no mold (or stains) in the fridge.
- If you use the toilet, you leave it exactly as before or cleaner.
- We both clean the tap in the sink, since it looks really nice when clean and ugly when full of chalk stains.
Exceptions are always ok -> if they don't become a habit <- .
You should invest at least 1-2 hours per week to clean or improve the apartment (as we do, too). If you think that that sounds horrible, you're probably not a good match. If you think this sounds great, please apply!
FRIENDSHIP:
- While Steve usually goes into his room and stays there (doing stuff on the computer), he'd very much like us to be close and trusting friends, since it makes things sooo much easier. Hence, it would be great if you shared (some of) our basic values: Steve's main aim in life is to "save the world", he is a workaholic, loves learning and self improvement, is into rationality and philosophy.
- Annika considers herself to be a classic "intersectional feminist left green" law student who came to Berlin to finish her legal training (Referendariat) and who loves long discussions in the kitchen, preferably about feminism or politics and preferably over a glass (or two, ...) of organic Riesling
COMMUNICATION:
- We very much value reliability, honesty and general kindness and we try to keep to our own standards.
- Steve will do everything in his power to keep every promise and commitment he ever makes to you and expects the same from you. Steve is very open, tries to be very transparent and aspires to both make everyone happy but at the same time prevent any party from being treated unfairly.
- Annika mostly leaves her door open (if not, she is sleeping or unsuccessfully trying to study). She is generally in a good mood, always likes to chat or talk and it is hard to annoy her (if you do, it was probably serious).
ABOUT US:
- Steve will tell you a little more about himself in a video he made for you (link below)
- Since Annika did not make a video, here a little more about her:
"I love breakfast (with coffee that's organic, fair and plastic free), wine and chocolate (same applies), long chats, feminist literature, little individually owned bookshops (She said is my place) and cute cafés. I love cooking (even more with company and definitely vegetarian/vegan), and I always bake to much so that I am always looking for people to share a piece of cake with me.
In my free time I dance a lot and do a lot of NGO and political work (namely Sea-Eye and the Green Party, currently).
It is really important to me that the people around me are happy and I always have a sympathetic ear. What I don't like: unfairness, unreliability, the political right and restaurants without anything vegetarian on the menu (not necessarily in that order).
In the end, it is really important to me to create a homely atmosphere, where everyone shows consideration and respects each other's privacy but where it is also possible to do things together or just spend time chatting or cooking or sharing a glass of wine (something I am very good at - the chatting and wine, I mean :D).
Looking forward to getting to know you!"
To apply, please answer us our list of questions:
- Here is the list: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YrrggcGsSAV_Ge4TsP4gnm7zjS1YCO0en9YWw_u8RgI
- You can skip some, if you want, you can answer some together, etc. We just want the info.
- You can answer in English or German, as you wish, we are fluent in both.
- We promise that we will only use the material you send us for the purpose of finding a roommate for this specific ad. Afterwards, we will delete it. We will not share the information with anyone else, it's only for Steve and Annika.
- If you don't feel comfortable making a video, you can also apply with a text or voice message. Please mention the aspects you would have addressed in the video as well (see paragraph above) :) We feel that we would get to know you better in a video, but we also acknowledge that you might not feel comfortable with that option. Here is Steve's video: https://youtu.be/m8DmT4IJnCE
Video / voice message
- In case you make a video or voice message, please try to keep it between 15-20 minutes. (We don't mind if it's longer but longer videos don't get "extra points".)
- We don't care about the format. You can send us a link to a video (e.g. YouTube) (as long as you make sure that we have access rights), a Whatsapp or Telegram-Video (Steve's phone number is in his profile), or even an .mp3 or .wav in an email (Steve's address is: mail(at)steveolotu "dot" com). As you prefer. In any case, please make sure that we know who you are. On this platform, it's no problem, but if you operate outside this platform, please just drop us a one-liner here, so that we can match the applications up with people and don't miss something, for example, in case an email doesn't arrive.
- We don't care about video quality or about you correcting yourself, etc. Just say "forget the last 2 minutes" and we totally will (promise!! ;-) ) Just do it once and send us your first try. It will probably be the most authentic and smoothest version anyway. Don't stress yourself. :-)
General points:
A. We'll reply as soon as possible and we'll reply in any case. Hence, as long as you haven't gotten a reply, we're still uncertain.
B. We won't go with "first come, first serve". As long as this ad is online, we'll accept applications and consider them all equally. And if we deactivate the ad while you're doing the video, you'll still be able to access it, just not find it in the search. So, no time pressure. :-)
