Hello!
Here's what you will find in your new room: single bed, a closet (a body mirror inside), a shelf, a study table (with a rolling chair and a small table with drawers to go with it). You also get a sink with a mirror.
You will be sharing the corridor, shower rooms, bathroom cubicles, living room and kitchen with 15 other students.
The living room is cozy. There is a cable TV, some sofas, a dining table, some cabinets to store your food/kitchenware. Once in a while we cook or drink together to celebrate (for eg. Christmas).
At the moment my hallmates are planning to have WLAN installed in the living/common room and the connection can be reached from your potential room. The cost of this will be discussed once you move in but it will be no more than 10 Euros per month.
The dorm itself provides 5 GB of internet (Ethernet) per month. You are however allowed to have your own WLAN installed in your room.
In the kitchen there are dish soaps, cutleries, cooking ware etc that are shared among you and your hallmates but you can definitely bring your own.
There is a balcony that can be accessed through the living room.
Ideal for students studying in UKE or have classes in the city.
It takes about 20-30 min to reach Grindelhof, Sternschanze, HBF
Getting around:
Buses 292 & 39 from Inselstrasse (4 min from the dorm) go to Lattenkamp.
U1 stops at Lattenkamp and it is the closest U bahn station from the dorm. To get there it takes 17 min by foot.
There are other bus stops (Wilhelm Metzger Strasse and Orchideenstieg) just 10 minutes away by foot.
Shopping:
There is an Apotheke 8 minutes away by foot right at Wilhelm Metzger Strasse.
Bus 109 from Wilhelm Metzger Strasse takes you to Winterhuder Marktplatz.
Rossman, Edeka, Aldi, Netto are all located there.
You have banks (Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, etc) in the area, and additionally some restaurants and bars.
There is a Penny, Rewe, Budni 15-20 minutes away by foot, both can also be reached with bus 109.
The dorm has a billiard room, a small bar in the basement, table tennis room, a fitness room and a common area for students to study in.
It is located by the river so canoeing is also possible (the dorm has two canoes and three rowing boats).
There are about 200+ students living here.
The current hall mates are all very friendly. They're always available to help you out if you have any questions. We are a mix of international and local students, some speak German, some can only speak English but it's not hard to get along with everyone.
There are janitors that come every weekday to clean the common areas and bathrooms. You are mostly responsible for the cleanliness of your own room (but of course it is cool if you clean up after yourself after for example, cooking). Also, each semester just for one week you will be in charge of taking out the trash.
If you're a student, friendly, and are looking for somewhere affordable to stay, do write to me.
You can tell me facts about you as a student (what you are studying, which semester are you in, what university, etc).
and I will confirm with you if your description fits!
Also it is important to note:
Since this is a dorm, once you move in it is required for you to present your "Immatrikulationsbescheinigung" from the university to the administration every semester.
Earliest date to end the contract is September 2018, you can stay up to 4 years as long as you are still a student in Hamburg :)
