Your room:
The room is truly spacious and lit with sunshine, the ironwork of the mini-balcony drawing intricate shadows on the wall. The window gives to a quiet lane crowned with a beautiful church on top. There is a double bed with a new comfy quality mattress, a large wooden table that can host all your work and study materials, a designer mannequin-lamp, hand-built chest of draws for your clothes, as well as all the pillows and bed linen.
The apartment overview:
The apartment is a carefully crafted duplex in a century-old house, refurbished and fresh. Most furniture consists of hand-made, quirkily designed objects, blending with proper tech and many mirrors. The first floor has two rooms (one is yours), a royal-sized bathroom, a kitchen and a spacious corridor. The second floor is our common office-by-day and dining-by-night area.
The bathroom:
The bathroom is arguably king size, with a bathtub and a bidet. Plus a palm tree. We have toilet paper delivery to avoid anyone's brains getting stuck with the mundane. Staying true to minimalism, the space is not cluttered with a gazillion of shampoos, rather, a few key items, and that is it.
The second floor:
The second floor is where we work, dine and weave conversations, with a view over the bridge and the rooftops of Lisbon. This is also where we keep a futon bed for visits of the family and friends (maximum two people at a time for no longer than a week).
Practical modern tech:
- 5G router with 200Mbps download and 100Mbps upload (yep, it is fast!)
- The windows are of double plastic, hence the room is quiet and insulated
- We have the most efficient, perfectly quiet and aesthetic glass heaters for the winter (the absolute majority of traditional houses have no heating, and this will save you from that humid freeze)
- A quality cooler working on water and ice for the summer (your best friend for the Lisbon heat)
- traditional Portuguese 100% wool curtains for heat and sound insulation
- Dishwasher and washing machine
- Quality espresso coffee machine (we buy ground coffee from a local cafe)
- Kettle, cold juicer, pasta maker, two types of mixers … quality pans (including the one for pancakes) and all thinkable cooking appliances
- Music column for proper sound
- Oven
- Most importantly: fridge magnets!
Cleaning:
We have a weekly cleaning of the whole apartment as we really care about hygiene.
Minimalism:
The apartment, without any tint of exaggeration, is a minimalist one. Everything you can find has a function. All the house basics, such as olive oil, flour and herbs are shared and regularly delivered. We recycle while making every effort to not buy anything unnecessarily packaged.
Looking for:
- vaccinated (a must)
- non-smoker (non-negotiable)
- minimalist and eco-minded
- no animals
- you truly appreciate and wish to maintain hygiene
What is included in the cost:
All bills and shared goodies are included in the price and reflect the sharing of all the costs of living in the heart of Lisbon.
IMPORTANT: if you are planning to stay for under three months, the total cost per month is 770 euros.
The city quarter:
The house is literally a few minutes away from the iconic Adamastor viewpoint. The most central metro station Baixa-Chiado is less than a 10 minute walk, while the mythical 28 tram stops across the street. The closest city bike station is 10 minutes away, while there is also a safe space for a bike indoors.
The most iconic coffee shops (from sleek to die-hard 80s) are all in the neighbourhood, while the most beautiful wooden clad library is also just around the corner. Next to us is one of the best wine stores, some of the best restaurants (vegan and vegetarian, too), as well as a few pragmatic local fruit stores with absolutely normal prices. There are many groceries, from basic to organic, within 5 minutes.
The flatmates:
Together with you we will be two people. An artist, a startupper and a polyglot, I am a quiet person spending most of my time writing, reading or riding my bike. I work remotely and enjoy cooking. Convivial moments and having a few friends over is absolutely welcome to share thoughts and dreams, while always respecting each other's needs.
How we can become home-mates:
It is not just "renting a room" as much as looking for someone to live with, so it is not about optimising on price but rather finding the right person. Please write about yourself, who you are, what moves you to get out of bed each morning, what you value. We then schedule a conversation or skype call. As you may imagine the mailbox is full of messages like "Hi, I'm interested, when can I visit" - these will not be responded. Again, the idea is to share a home, so it's really about you:)
