**UPDATE: We've reached out to some people for interviews. The ad is still available for their reference, but unless things fall through, it's unlikely that we'll be interviewing additional candidates.**
Finding a flat in Berlin is hard enough as it is, without an empty description staring at you. So I feel that I owe you a description. That said I'm not quite sure what to say.
The room we're advertising is typically occupied by one of Joe's friends, who's currently away in Senegal. It's south facing, and gets direct light in the morning and afternoon. Though my room is significantly larger, it is also darker, and to be honest, I'm a bit jealous of the small one being advertised. Rent includes heating and utilities. Because November has already started, the we'll prorate (reduce) the rent.
Our flat is a very beautiful Altbau between the Hermanstrasse (U8) and Neukölln (U9) S+U Bahn stops, just outside of the ring, a few blocks south of Körnerpark. A friend once remarked that this was the first flat in Berlin she'd seen with proper recycling. Yes - it is posh, indeed.
I (Albert) am an early thirties environmental activist who works with Extinction Rebellion. For visa purposes, I'm also a programmer. I'm from the US, but have a Dutch partner, who lives in Lichtenberg. For hobbies, I play capoeira and do gymnastic rings.
Joe (my housemate) is an early 40's philosopher, also from the US. He's an independent philosopher who runs something called "Human Systems." He frequently organizes meetups for post-authenticity and other fun gaming activities.
** What we're looking for**
We're looking for someone to help us make this a warm and lovely place. The flat has come a long way since I moved in, and it now has a more-or-less functioning kitchen. I like to cook, and would be very pleased to be able to share meals and conversation as it gets dark out. I think that Joe would enjoy someone to talk about philosophy with.
It would be nice to have a native German speaker in the house. I'm trying to learn German, and what's more, it's sometimes difficult to navigate German bureaucracy without speaking.
** Why we're looking on such short notice **
The two people who were going to move in changed their minds, at last minute. Now we're just stuck with two empty rooms, and November has already begun. 😬
** How to get in contact **
We've reached out to some people for interviews. The ad is still available for their reference, but unless things fall through, it's unlikely that we'll be interviewing additional candidates.
I prefer messages/emails to WhatsApp. Please include your name, gender, age, and a little bit about what you're looking for in a flat. We're hoping to schedule interviews in the evening on Thursday November 7th, so it may be more difficult to coordinate if you're not available then.
If the ad is up, the room is available. Please do not send messages asking whether it's available.
** Plot Twist**
And, of course, there is an additional plot twist: I'm advertising the one temporary room, but actually have two rooms available. The other one is larger, slightly more expensive (~€380 + €30), and permanent. However, we're being significantly more picky about housemates for that one.
