Hello dear people looking for a room in Berlin...
We, Frank (he/him) and Joanna (she/her), found this beautiful, spacious house in Karlshorst and will sublet it from October until April of next year (with a vague possibility to extend). The current tenants will be traveling for half a year and will leave us their home in the meanwhile. We originally applied with a befriended couple, but they will sadly not join us due to the temporary nature of the arrangement. So now we are looking for one or two people to join us and make this house warm and cozy together for six months (or maybe longer) :)
The house extends over 4 floors, allowing plenty of space for everyone. There is a generously sized open living room space, which attaches on one end to the winter garden and leads into the fully equipped kitchen on the other end. We would ideally use one room as a sort of joint office space/work area for everyone, so the house is also suitable for home office. There is another room and a half-bathroom (guest bathroom) in the basement (with limited natural light), which we imagine using as a room for respite, or when applicable, a guest room. A terrace (with a fire pit) and a winter garden offer space for outdoor (or semi-outdoor) activities and social evenings.
Preferably we are looking for a couple or a single person to take over the biggest room (room 3) under the roof top on the same story as the main bathroom (Room 03 on the pictures).
The location of the house is central and pleasantly quiet. Public transport is only 300 meters away, and the nearest S-Bahn station, S Karlshorst, is only a 10-minute walk. The district Friedrichshain with its numerous restaurants, cultural options, shops and bars can be reached in about 15-20 minutes by public transport or bike. Both Alexanderplatz and the well-known Friedrichstraße are reachable in half an hour.
Green oasis of calm and nature 🌳🌳
But the best thing is: Despite the central location, the house is surrounded by greenery surrounded and offers absolute tranquility. A private garden invites you to relax and enjoy one. The beautiful park is just around the corner "Seepark", while the city forest "Wuhlheide" and the "Park Wuhlheide" in within walking distance. The area is perfect for this Outdoor sports activities such as jogging or walking.
We decided to look for a new home together just outside the ring to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and also have the opportunity to be active in our own garden. (Although in the winter, there won’t be too much happening…) We as a couple are very open-hearted and sociable. We spend a lot of time together and with friends outside. We not only wanted to find a nice house, but also to make it a home with *you*, where everyone contributes and in which we can live with warm mutual exchange :)
A bit about us, in the hopes of finding a truly harmonious living arrangement:
Joanna is 27 and is currently doing her Masters degree at the Institut für Kunst im Kontext at the UdK Berlin. She studied Fine Art (painting & sculpture) in Boston, and moved to Berlin about 5 years ago. She loves to cycle and has done several bikepacking trips in the last few years (most recently up to Norway, where she spent several months doing a Workaway on a smallholding in the arctic.). Generally, fitness is a big component of her life. She is vegetarian and likes cooking with others. In her downtime, you can mostly find her knitting or doing crosswords (like the true octogenarian she is.)
Frank is 30, works as an architect (sometimes from home although he is often in an coworking space) and has a penchant for analogue photography. When he’s not listening to a podcast, he is busy scanning the deepest depths of Kleinanzeigen to find interesting items or cooking an elaborate meal. He likes playing basketball at local courts with friends, and generally enjoys other team-motivated sports. Otherwise, you might find him visiting second-hand shops and flea markets, of which the city has plenty to offer! He also likes to cycle around and discover new areas in Berlin and has gotten into longer distance cycling since being with Joanna.
Generally, we are both relatively quiet people but also extroverted when in the right context. Extroverted introverts or introverted extroverts.. who’s to say… We imagine finding people who may feel similarly about themselves — who enjoy time by themselves, but also desire exchange. It would be nice to share a meal a few times a week, have a game night or go to an exhibition or some sort of event together! We are left-leaning people who also engage in demonstrations and sociopolitical events when possible.
Last but not least, belonging to the group is Dexter, a cat with a lot of personality. He is 2 years old and has accompanied Joanna on many adventures. He is an outdoor cat, and mostly hangs outside. However, he will also be in the house, so unfortunately for those allergic to cats, this may not be a good fit :(. Dexter can sometimes be cuddly but is often independent. One thing to note is that he can be a bit challenging around food when it is left unattended, so we have a strict policy of cleaning up immediately after ourselves (he unintentionally helps us stay on top of things!).
WG-leben… We prioritize cleanliness and open communication, and prefer to address problems directly before they become larger. The rest we can figure out together, ensuring a comfortable and safe space for everyone.
Also just to make sure that read all the text, please be so kind as to mention your favorite movie when you write us :)
Deutsch geht natürlich auch. Frank ist Muttersprachler und Joanna kann die Sprache fließend.
If you move in together as a couple, we will split the rent evenly so everyone would pay 550€ each. If you are a single person, the rent would be 900.
Anmeldung is possible.
Currently we can not invite you to see the house in person , because we are currently not yet living there. We hope the abundance of photos is convincing enough for a first impression. We’d suggest meeting up first and if we can imagine to live together we will contact the current tenants about a visit. :)
