The Neighborhood
The neighborhood is Friedrichshain and you can find tons of options to eat out, go out and shop.
Simon-Dach-Str. is just a few minutes by tram (or 15 minutes on foot), where you can find many bars (Astro, Dachkammer, etc.) and restaurants.
The street in which the building is situated (Pettenkoferstr.) is, however, quiet, so there is no noise that could disturb you during the night. There is also a nice green area in front of the building, which is perfect for jogging or hanging out in summer.
Just a minute away, there is a big avenue called Frankfurter Allee, on which you can find two big shopping malls, many shops and the subway stop. (Alexanderplatz is just 15 minutes away by subway.)
There are also many supermarkets in the area:
-Lidl on Rigaerstr.
-Aldi in the mall on Frankfurter Allee (both are the cheapest options)
-Bio Company on Voigstr. (affordable organic supermarket with a big product range - tofu, ouat/soya milk, organic bakery, etc.)
-Kaufland on Storkowerstr. (huge hypermarket)
-Kaiser's on Rigaerstr. (open until MIDNIGHT every day)
There are also many small shops around that are open until late at night (for drinks and food).
Getting around
Frankfurter Allee subway station (subway closes between 00:30 and 01:30 during the week and is open 24h on Fridays and Saturdays):
-line U5, goes directly to Alexanderplatz
-line S42/41 (Ringbahn, the most useful connection in Berlin)
-line S9 (direct connection to Airport Schönefeld)
-line S8
There are also night buses during the week that go between Alexanderplatz and Frankfurter Allee.
On Frankfurter Allee and on Scharnweberstr. you will find a tram station. There you can take a direct tram to Simon-Dach-Str. and Warschauerstr. or direction Marzahn.
Other Things to Note
You can park for free on Eldenauerstr., which is a few minutes away. Otherwise you can park in front of the building but it would cost you a few euros from 9am to 7pm.
