You are looking for a beautiful place to stay in Heidelberg in July, August and September?
What a luck, because we from “Gemeinwohnglück” are also looking for you and invite you to creative, self-effective (dare to take things into your own hands), design of shared living spaces!
Annika will spend three month in Portugal and for this time we are searching for a kind person who feels home in her room!
Just to give an idea:
In order to give the luck a small *hust* list with more hints: The roommate of our dreams
- goes AT LEAST once a year with us to an electro festival (e.g. "Wilde Möhre")
- has fun in common activities, like e.g.: board games, swimming and sauna in the Schwimmbad “Köpfel”, sharing house and garden parties, growing vegetables ...
- likes to eat in community (mostly vegan)
- initiates and manages projects and actions in and around the house or housing project, for example the construction of a sauna, a raised bed or a neighborhood cinema – even though or just because she herself is unsure whether she can do it well enough (we see ourselves as a learning space for skills that arise from the urge to create and not from economized compulsion or perfectionism)
- likes to participate from time to time in actions at corresponding public events to draw attention to an awesome housing project and the potentials of this model and thus also to get subordinated loans for the housing project (the loans we have to take out again and again for the housing project)
- Likes to attend redactions (that's what we call our current weekly plenary) and volunteers to answer questions like, "Who's going to do the interest calculation for the subordinate loans next?
- expresses needs promptly and directly: "I really really really really really really really don't want to listen to loud electronic music!" or "I want us to eat more local and organic food and spend more money on it" (actually we shop for each other and share the costs)
is able to consider the needs and opinions of individuals as well as the group and to act accordingly - even if one's own opinion differs strongly with regard to controversial topics such as Corona, movie taste or the favorite dictator
- likes to bathe naked (even in winter) in the stream in the adjacent forest or Neckar
- occasionally invites strange friends who, among other things, make sure that the 17€ we all pay monthly for a shared guest room is worth it (already involved in the rent)
- likes to witness or fuel endless wild discussions about sense and nonsense endless wild discussions about the sense and nonsense of endless wild discussions about the sense and nonsense... joking aside, delicate, profound, personal, funny and hair-splitting discussions get space with us... do rules of the game actually always have to be fair and where does the word "joke" come from?
- feels free to add more items to this list.
The room is on the second floor, has a size of 12m².
You can get an impression of the house and the work we have already done together in this blog post, which we have published on our homepage: https://gemeinwohnglueck.wordpress.com/2021/10/28/abtauchen-um-luft-zu-holen/
Please have a look around on our little homepage, especially our inland contract: https://gemeinwohnglueck.wordpress.com/2021/08/09/binnenvertrag/

The house and our house project
We joined forces in February 2021 and in August we bought a wonderful little house directly at the edge of the forest in Ziegelhausen, which we want to withdraw from the market and thus from speculation in the long term in the association of the Mietshäuser Syndikat (https://www.syndikat.org), in order to create self-managed, affordable living space in Heidelberg and additionally a place for meeting and exchange. The part of the house that we live in (we have a tenant who lives "below" us) offers living space for 7 people and a lot of space for activities and design in the outdoor area.
We financed the majority of the purchase price (600,000€) through a bank loan. The remaining 245.000€ were raised through direct financial investments of private donors. Following the model of the Mietshäuser Syndikat, we have founded a house association, in which all tenants are members, as well as a GmbH (limited liability company), whose shareholder is the house association and will soon also be the Mietshäuser Syndikat. The house is thus deprivatized, removed from speculation on the real estate market, not part of inheritance and basically always belongs to the respective residents. In this way, we want to make our contribution to affordable housing in Heidelberg. You can, but do not have to contribute your own capital. The monthly rent payments are between approx. 360€ - 460€ warm. The "rent" is used, apart from the additional costs, for the repayment of the loans, to a smaller extent for the self-administration and maintenance of the house and soon for the support of the Mietshäuser Syndikat (with the so-called "Solidarbeitrag"). We are tenants and landlords at the same time and manage the house ourselves. In the basement lives Thomas, whom we took over from the previous owner as a tenant. The house project is therefore an ongoing project, which does not end with the purchase of the property and can and must be redesigned again and again.
WG-Life
We are currently 6 people, 3 women, 3 men (partly former residents of www.hagebutze.de) and therefore familiar with communal living. With full intention we have chosen a house at the edge of the forest, which offers a lot of space for community, creation and experimentation. Here are some points that are important to us:
- Everyone feels like an actively participating and responsible member of the community
Commitment to the success of the project (solicitation of direct loans, renovation work, availability of time for weekly reding)
- Open and active communication, i.e., promptly and openly addressing discomfort, concerns, conflicts, actively participating in solutions, i.e., working out options for action; seeking conversations with individual residents and involving mediation comes before disruptive escalation
- Great desire to cook, eat, shop, dance, listen to music, paint the house colorfully, discuss hyphenation, clean windows with lifts, or take on other tasks together
- No penetration of the communal living space by "political proselytizing"
- Regular exchanges for the well-being of all roommates order to create a home for all in which everyone also feels at home.

About us (written by one roommate at a time)
Malte, the maltifunctional maker: 31, built the FairteilerMobil, and when he was done with it, his sound system, which he loves to share. By day he works in transformative research and urban planning to energize the energy transition - by night he sleeps. #whatless
Ryem, 36, the rabid romantic, is small but never subtle and has the dance style of an art thief cat. Her name means gazelle in Syrian, which really says it all. So does Ryem.
Gui (a.k.a. McGuiver), 29, comes from an island in southern Brazil and is - we have to admit this unapologetically - the main reason we sit together so often, because he's incredibly good at cooking, even better at artfully flexing on the construction site, bricklaying, carpentry and, best of all, dancing. Actually, Gui can do everything. Except High German.
Sina, 28, the singing Swabian is always relaxed, repotting the houseplants, chilling with her inner center, and has immediately fallen in love with the house community. That alone speaks for her.
Marc, 35, the striking mountain biker, likes to carry more trash out of the forest than into it. He likes everything that is fast and loud and also loves peacock eyes, women's eyes and men too. He likes to help a lot, almost never needs help himself. Marc is proud to call the second largest sound system of the WG his own.
Annika, in typical Annikhardcore manner, has just biked from Germany to Portugal and is currently climbing around in the Andes. In February she will return to her old life as a sign language interpreter and theater-therapist amateur table tennis ballerina.
FROM BREMEN, DIGGA.
If you'd like to meet us and join in, please write us (email at gemeinwohnglueck (ät) posteo.de is also possible :) )!
Kind regards,
Marc, Sina, Gui, Ryem, Annika and Malte
