Hallo! [English in „Sonstiges“]
Also: viel Gemeinschaftsraum für alle.
The room itself:
We are looking for a new roommate for our (then again) seven-person shared flat.
The apartment is on the third floor (not barrier-free) and is well-maintained („Altbau“) and equiped with the latest modern amenities (new windows! thermostat! airfryer!).
The room is a compact 8m2, has a high ceiling and feels more spacious thanks to the built-in bunk bed. Our old flatmate will leave for you the shelve and desk free of charge - if you wish - and there‘s still room for a mini couch. There's also the kitchen, the living room and the co-working-space to occupy. And the corridor! Almost an assembly hall! So: lots of communal space for everyone.
The room can be accessed separately, it is a bit noise-sensitive and located between the shared rooms and has a window with a view in the quiet inner courtyard.
Rent: 311 euros warm and cozy, with household insurance, internet. Share of the deposit is 900 euros. [If this is the only problem, please contact us and we will try to find a solution]. We can guarantee the room until the end of October, as the apartment contract will be up by then. What happens after that is written in the stars, perhaps clues can be found in the horoscope; in any case, we are currently discussing it in detail & if you feel like it, you are welcome to make plans with us.
Location:
Perfect, if you love petrol stations - jokes aside, it's not exactly in the city center but the metro station of the line U4 is less than 5 minutes away and with that you arrive fast anywhere. The riverside of the tiny, tiny Vienna "river" right in front of the house is perfect for walking/jogging/raving and the Lainzer Tiergarten is a huge natural area just a couple of metro stops away if you are looking for calm and trees.
Living together:
We use half of our (quite ample) living space together, pursuing the usual activities such as cooking, repairing bicycles, sorting out our Magic card collection, spontaneously dancing for an hour, reading the newspaper and lamenting about, no, not life, but some of the things we encounter in it. In between creative outbursts, we crack jokes (but always against the right people!), which we think are so good that we sometimes write them down. Somehow the notes always get lost...
We don't just see ourselves as, but actually are, a community ("Extended Family"). We've lived together for several years and have been through ups and lockdowns. We own a lot of things together, a box full of costumes and the cat are just random examples. We would like to welcome a new member who not only wants to manage the tedious aspects of everyday life together, but also wants to share political, creative, sporting, and other aspects ... (not all of this is a must, there are various sub-groups!), to really get to know each other and to participate in crazy activities.
Facts about living in our shared-flat community
1 As mentioned before, we have a cat. He rules over us with an iron paw and is cared for with loving devotion.
2. We share cleaning chores and food shopping on a trust-based approach and are looking for a new roommate who feels comfortable with this as well. It means, we do without exact allocation / billing. Instead, we balance the burdens of everyday life by talking about it together from time to time, so we get a feel for the current vibe. This has worked very well so far, and leads us to:
3. about once a month, we scrape together our time management skills and hold a plenary meeting. That‘s extremely important with seven people. Conflicts are addressed before there's a real problem, but also whether we should organize something, redecorate the living room or get more involved in the food coop. Things like that.
4. the majority of us are non-smokers, we don't smoke in the communal areas. But there is a small courtyard downstairs where you can smoke to your heart's content.
5. we mainly speak German and English with each other. If you only speak one of these languages, that's no problem. The language salad is also garnished with Italian bread cubes, French grains and Spanish vinegar.
Who we are:
We are six people between 28 and 33 who live in a shared flat because we think it's a great way of living.
Eva
studied philosophy and is now working on her dissertation. The atmosphere is accordingly - very good! She spends a lot of time in the office, but tries to squeeze in some ... performative activities in between. Eva likes to go dancing, enjoys a good sparring session and is writing version nine of her second children's book at the weekend.
Sven
studied English, is trying to finish his master's thesis in psychology and is now working in the social sector. Sven plays in a band and met Eva years ago during a theater project. Professional pit stops include: D&D Dungeon Master, abstinent bartender, personal trainer of the WG in lockdown times (a service now only enjoyed by the cat).
Stephen
also makes music; the number of projects has fluctuated between 1 and 17 for years. Stephen researches human rights issues for money and has also started studying again. The second Master's degree hasn't changed the stress that the end of the semester brings... Stephen is a member of the subgroups vegan food, wrestling gossip and dorky banter in the shared flat.
Fedora
is a not quite finished architect, also a Romance language student and has been a student representative in university politics for several years. She never wears black and certainly never wears turtlenecks, loves large groups, games with flexible rules and spontaneous ideas. Improv theater gives her the skills to expertly manage the rest of the flat share. Can often be found with the cat chilling on the couch.
Mad
the name says it all. Maddalena came to Vienna from Italy five years ago to study Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy. A cheerful member of the academic precariat, she works on... two? three? different projects - and has ideas for 1000 and 1 creative projects (implementation is not recorded). She enthusiastically pursues various other activities such as acrobatics, involvement in political groups, hiking and spends the rest of her time traveling around Europe by night train.
Joseph
loves sport. Sport has to do with his paid work and his free time. And also with the journey from one place to another, which he does by bike. Joseph studied sports management in France and loves to play Munchkin. Ecological issues are important to him; he is the (self-declared) most dramatic member of the flat share.
Ponder
The most beautiful of us. Young at heart, 10 years old, likes sunshine through the window and Zoo Royal. Hunting and stalking his prey was his hobby - before he was demoted from king of the rooftops to an indoor apartment cat.
We would like someone to move in who feels comfortable here and is genuinely interested in living in a community. Which will of course change with a new person. So if this ad hasn't put you off, then come get to know us over cake and beer (or soda)! Please write us a message with a little bit about yourself and your ideas of communal living. And if you want to write something more extensive - no problem; we also like to read short novels. If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)
