We are a leftist queer feminist house community close to Vienna, in Breitenfurt.
Soon we will have a free van outside the house because one person is moving out.
All together we will be 6 people living here (but not everybody will be in Austria at all times) and three dogs.
Living collectively is very important for us.
We have a queerfeminist attitude and at the moment there's a colorful bunch of trans, non-binary, feminine, masculine, genderqueer/fluid, undefined, cis and questioning people living here. But we are no FLINTA-only household.
Some of us use non-binary pronouns (or they/them in english).
There are also three small doggies living with us, that love cuddling, but in the beginning need some time to start trusting new people in their life. It is important to us that someone moves in who wants to live together with dogs, who meets them with love and patience and who wants to spend time with them from time to time. One of the three likes to bark regularly (when he isn't sleeping, cuddling or eating) so it would be beneficial if you bring some tolerance to loud barking.
The people living here share an anarchist, anti-capitalist, anti-racist, queerfeminist, anti-authoritarian and pro-vegan attitude - if we cook, it's most of the time for everyone and vegan ;)
We are happy about people who also like to live together and not just next to each other.
That each person also needs time & space for themselves is clear anyway.
We make common decisions by consensus, and we try to be there for each other and care for each other. We also often talk and play together, go to protests or dumpster diving and so on (all without obligation).
Most of our daily life is self-determined and needs-oriented (plenaries, repro, errands and expenses, ... ) and we share (almost) all of our food, household items, etc (also without obligation).
We try to recognize social power structures, mechanisms of oppression & forms of discrimination, social norms & pressures and (also our!) privileges and to deconstruct them as best as we can. And of course to destroy patriarchy and capitalism.
We are definitely not a functional flat-sharing community, but have friendly and interested/caring relationships with each other. We are (almost) always excited about communal activities (also without obligation) and find it important to be able to talk with each other.
We wish for an appreciative, (self)critical, solidary, openminded contact with each other and a preferably hierarchy-free living together on eye level.
The van is rather small and cozy, but finished for living and has also been inhabited throughout the last few years. It has a wide bed, a sitting area, a small kitchenette and a wood stove for which there is also plenty of wood in our garage (which still needs to be cut to parts, but we are on it and would like to do that together and always try to do it before it gets cold). There is also plenty of cupboards and storage space. The van is parked in the front garden at the stairs leading to our front door. The common rooms as well as the communal life would be open to you and we would be happy if you want to participate in it!
We calculate the rent together and depending on the means and needs of the people living here, currently we have calculated about 200€ for the car and this can be discussed at any time.
Our lease is currently for 5 years and ends in May 2024, but we may be able to extend it.
Our landlord is very sweet and also politically stable ;-)
Vienna is easy to reach from our house yet it is a bit more rural and quiet, there is a lot of nature and birds singing instead of city noise and in about 2 minutes walking time you are in the middle of the woods.
We are already in Lower Austria, but only 3 km from the city borders (Liesing) away.
We live about 10 minutes walk from the bus station "Breitenfurt Siedlung Eigenheim", the bus to the S-Bahn Liesing leaves 2-4 times per hour.
The distance to the S-Bahn Liesing is about 7km, some of us also cycle regularly and find it quite doable :)
In total it takes about 50 minutes by public transport to get to the city center.
If you don't feel like living in the big city and would like to live on the edge of the forest in the countryside, but still want to be close to the city + well connected, you will really like the location!
House & Community:
We have two large very bright living rooms and a garden of about 1000m² with terrace, where everything from campfires to vegetable gardening is possible. There's also a vegetable garden, fire bowl, trampoline, slide, hammock and a fence because of the dogs ;-)
For us, it's important to share an anti-racist, anti authoritarian, queerfeminist and anarchist, preferably hierarchy-free basic consensus and we try to reflect and avoid any form of discrimination.
We wish for a considerate and responsible interaction with each other (also with the doggies) and that only vegan cooking is done in our kitchen and only vegan/freegan food is eaten in the common rooms (in the private rooms everyone can eat everything).
It would be super if you would also like to share food and household stuff and/or participate in going dumpster diving together. Currently we share actually (almost) everything, but it is of course also not a must! :)
We don't have a shared household budget, we try to share the costs of living by needs and (financial) ressources people have and we also go dumpster diving a lot which provides us with most of the vegetables, fruit, and baked goods we need, so the costs for groceries are very low.
Regarding order and cleanliness we would be happy if you have ressources to contribute. We try to communicate what everybody's needs and wishes are and then find ways to make everybody comfortable.
Sometimes it is a little cleaner, but more often not so, and mostly the WG is rather lively-chaotic. We will probably never get super-super-clean and tidy.
You will live with 5-6 other people, some of which are nonbinary/genderqueer. We are diverse and don't want to be defined by our (non)work/education.
All of us are (to different extends/in different ways) politically active and/or interested and it would be nice if it is the same for you :)
Things that individuals or all of us like to do are: chatting and discussing, playing, cooking, eating, walking (with dogs), making music, caring and being there for each other, responding and listening to each other, making art and political activities, activism, crafting, repairing, experimenting, biking, rollerskating, snowboarding, skateboarding, attending and/or organizing events and parties (hopefully again soon), gardening, listening to music, relaxing, going dumpster diving, and much more...!
The dogs living here love to cuddle, bark and eat, are unique and absolutely adorable.
If our description appeals to you, and your ideas of living together are similar to ours, we would be very happy to hear from you!
We are happy to hear from anyone, but we will give preference to flinta* people.
Also we ask you for some patience concerning answering messages, we like to take our time for it, but this is not always possible immediately ;-)
Best regards and maybe see you soon,
the people from the QWG
