Hallo,

P.S. Hier stellt sich Matt kurz vor:

Dear Host Family,
My name is Matthew Dorsey and I am 23 years old. I am from Saint Louis, Missouri, a city along
the Mississippi River in the Midwest, where I grew up as a child and teenager. After graduating
from high school, I started university at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST)
in Rolla, MO to study Chemical Engineering. After four and a half years of studying I have just
graduated from MST in December 2017. Eventually I would like to get my PhD in Biochemical
Engineering with the aspiration to eventually reach a university professorship, however, right
now I am taking some time off to gain some practical work experience before I start my next
degree. Currently, I live and work in San Francisco at a pilot scale biotechnology facility.
I have actually been two Germany once before: in 2016 a few of my friends and I traveled through
Europe and spent about a week in Germany (way too short). We were able to see Dresden, Berlin,
and München, and visit the Bastei bridge, Neuschwanstein, and Teufelburg. In addition to
traveling in Europe, I have spent some time in Asia (Vietnam and Cambodia) and South America
(Peru). When I travel, I love taking photos. I have attached some photos of myself, and my
photography!
Growing up I have always dreamed to see the world and experience new cultures, with my sights
set on Germany. In high school, I studied German for four years, and loved every moment. I am
literally so excited to participate in the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program, for so
many reasons that I do not think I can enumerated all of them in this letter. I think one of the
biggest reasons is you all. For me, the opportunity to see what life in Germany is like by living
with a native German family is so unique. I look forward to learning about German traditions and
heritage through our conversations (in German). Additionally, as an academic, I am excited to
take courses and study in German, learning about how another culture thinks and reasons
differently than Americans.
What would living with me be like? I enjoy cooking, although I am still learning, and hope that we
can learn about each other culture by making meals for each other. I am very active, I like to run
regularly, play ultimate frisbee (when I can find clubs), and try to camp and backpack in the
wilderness at least once a month when the weather permits(I plan to bring my backpacking gear).
I like to read and study, and generally I am more of an introvert, so you can expect that I will
spend some time in my room or maybe at a café alone. However, at the same time I am very
social and when I am not studying I like to meet and socialize with others. I do not have any
dietary or living restrictions, and generally I am very easy going. You can expect that I will
contribute to the household by cleaning weekly/monthly and would like to possibly prepare one
meal for everyone regularly.
I cannot wait to meet you!
Warmest Regards,
Matt
