In the past 7 years, it takes almost one half of my time in filed work. We investigated more than 100 typical islands from North China (Shangdong Province) to South China (Guangdong Province), it spans 15 latitudes. We established about 400 20m×20m fixed monitoring plots on the investigated islands. Within each plot, we abstracted climate variables from http://worldclim.org/version 2, and collected community composition data (measured each individual within plots), and measured plant functional trait (leaf, twig, anatomical and structural traits for each species at each plot), also measure soil properties (soil nitrogen, soil carbon and soil phosphorus et al.) and topographical variables (elevation, slope, aspect and coordinate).
We also used remote sensing image to obtain the land-use
intensity (about 30 years), and dominant species lost rate (one kind of Pinus, 80% at an early stage) as the outbreak of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, now only have 10%. For 40 islands, we measured soil microbes.
Now I finished the dataset that my thesis needs. My P.H.D thesis main focus on land-use intensity and dominant species lost affect plant species diversity, functional diversity, and phylogenetic diversity. I have a deep yearning to study in your group for a short time because I realized the limitations of my knowledge in the current condition. I want to devote myself to a topic focused on island biogeography in the future’s visit time.
