Looking for a room in a friendly flatshare

Hello - I'm a 30yr old British scientist and I've just moved from California to Berlin to start a new 3 year research position at the Charitè. I feel a bit like Paddington Bear when he first sets foot in London.

I'm new to the city and I'm looking for a room in friendly flatshare for at least 12 months and probably longer. I'd like to live somewhere fairly quiet and relaxed, but I'm always up for a cup of tea, a beer, or even a marmalade sandwich with flatmates. I always do my bit to keep the apartment clean and tidy. Ideally I'd like to live within a short walk/cycle of interesting and useful things (bars, cafes, parks, public transport etc).

I like to see live bands and catch up with friends in the pub. I'm also a big fan of going to the cinema, particularly old ones where you can almost fold yourself into a comfy chair and get lost. I like to cook, cycle, run, hike, and swim.
