This centrally located, modern studio with high-speed internet and digital TV is right in the city center, close to all metro lines and universities.
The studio is totally refurbished in the beginning of this year, under guidance of an architect and interior decorator.
Being on the fourth floor in a five-floor building (with elevator), overlooking roofs of the surrounding buildings, the apartment is very bright. It is built on two levels - the second level being a platform that is elevated 70 cm above the ground. Under the platform are hidden a pull-out double bed and an enormous storage place in two oversized drawers. The platform reaches the bottom of two windows, which are converted into French balconies by adding a secure-glass fence (see photos). The balconies overlook a pedestrian street and small park (please note the Google view photos are old, this street is now pedestrian).
The apartment features floor heating, and a 3.5-meter long, built-in garderobes.
Furniture is new. The living room includes a dining table that is also used as a desk. The platform is covered with imported German wooden parquet and the kitchen and bathroom with Italian ceramic tiles. The new windows are double glazed, the new entry door has security lock. Sofa opens into a double bed to accommodate guests.
The kitchen is refurbished, with new appliances, including oven, built-in microwave, fridge, washing machine, dryer, toaster, hot pot and an espresso machine with capsules. One wall is covered with an oversized mirror under which is a glass-covered breakfast pult with two designer bar chairs.
Bathroom has unique mosaic tiles with Italian taps and ceramics, a shower cabin with security glass door, with a rainforest shower head built in the ceiling, and another hand-held shower head.
The latest generation Bosch gas boiler provides hot water and heating.
All lamps in the apartment, with exception of the dimmer-operated lamps above the open bricks wall, are with LED and/or saving bulbs. The new windows and doors are energy efficient, as well as are the new Bosch boiler, washing machine and fridge.
The apartment was featured in Hungarian interior design magazines: http://divany.hu/raktar/2014/04/08/terkultura/
Cost
The apartment is rented for 12 months minimum, the cost is 420 Euros per month. The security deposit is 840 Euros.
The service cost is 30,000 Forints (app. 100 Euros) and it includes high-speed internet (6 Gb/ sec), digital TV, water, four weekly visits by a cleaning lady, the staircase electricity and cleaning, and garbage removal.
The apartment has its own gas and electricity meters, so you pay it as you use!
The Studio is on the border between the 5th, 7th and 8th districts.
The 8th district owns its title "The Palace Quarter" to the numerous palaces built here, that formerly belonged to Hungarian nobility. Nowadays the area is famous for several universities that have their campuses here, all in a 250 meters radius - including the Elte, Catholic University, German University, The Hungarian Film School, and the University Library. CEU is at some 15 minutes walk. The Technical, Veterinary and Medical universities are all at a short distance by public transportation. The district also hosts the Hungarian National Museum and The Hungarian Radio. Because of the proximity of the universities the area has a big number of bookshops, antique and bookinist stores, as well as many students living here and services catering to them.
The 7th district recently started building its reputation as a party area, full of bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants.
Tesco and SPAR supermarkets, and Muler department store are two minutes walk away, a pharmacy is under the building and post office at 3 minutes walk.
Getting around
Five minutes away are the metro lines 1 and 2 (Blaha Luiza, Kalvin and Astoria) with a metro going directly to Semmelweis University (three metro stops). The new metro line 3 is five minutes walk and three stops away from the Technical University. The tram lines 4-6 that go to the Technical University are 2 minutes and the lines and 47-49 are 6 minutes walk. Buses 7, 173 and 212 stop in front of the house. The trolley 73 that goes to the Veterinary University is at 2 minutes walk.
Right under the building is a station of the Budapest public bicycle that will be inaugurated this May. Keleti station with speed trains to Vienna and Bratislava is one metro stop away. The blue metro line takes you towards the airport.
Design
Thematically, the design of the studio is dedicated to revolutions that marked the 20th century in Hungary and Europe. Avoiding the cliches of modern apartment decoration, it features original artwork featuring a front page of "Pravda", the infamous Soviet propaganda mouthpiece, and a collage of Che Guevara and Marylyn (The Cuban revolution meets sexual revolution), while Ghandi, the founder of non-violent revolution, warns you in the shower that there is more to life than increasing its speed... Coffee table and TV stand are made of original Russian military boxes (we searched thrift shops to find them!) while the lamp above the dining table is an antique factory lamp bringing the taste of industrial revolution.
Kitchen walls are partly covered by black school-board color, so you can use white chalk to write your own thoughts about meaning of life :)
