Hi Potential New Housemate,

Please read ALL sections and text of this ad carefully and send us something more than a copy and paste response... this is no normal flat share! This is our home and we have 1 free room to rent out here in our home starting April 15, 2022. We are seeking more settled, mature and balanced individuals to share our special cozy home + situation. Hopefully, you are already active doing your thing to make the world a better and more sustainable place but if not we have plenty of opportunities to share...

:: About Us ::

We prefer to live with a sense of basic community, connection, communication and collaboration. We want to maintain a balanced, clean and supportive environment and hopefully so do you!

Level 1 - Everyone is respectful of each other and cares enough about and does their fair share to maintain and keep the apartment clean with a comfortable and relaxed vibe.

Level 2 - We develop good supportive relationships with each other and help each other to live well according to each ones needs.

Level 3 - We find engaging and practical ways to collaborate, everyone achieving what they want with some common purpose or goal.

Level 1 is a must, levels 2 & 3 would be nice to develop organically with patience over time... We like to think of ourselves as pretty normal people, not too hippie spiritual and not too over-intellectualized or scientific. We like the ideas of using common sense to find common ground and maintain dynamic balance within our lives.

Karen and Scott are continually developing and using their project and event space (on the ground floor of our building) in the form of an indoor tree house (Das Baumhaus) with the organic design aesthetics of 'Lord of The Rings'-Gaudi-'Avatar'. We think of it as a hub for sustainable development; a place where people can come to collaboratively develop practical solutions that make the world a better place. Being involved with the Baumhaus project is a definite plus but not a requirement to live with us... Here are some informative links:

We have 1 room available

:: The Room ::

Our sublease room is 15qm for €485. This room has 2 windows facing west that open into the Hof, which gets direct west sunlight from late Spring through early Autumn. It can come unfurnished or partially furnished with a bed, desk, chair and shelf. It is possible to paint, decorate or construct a loft bed in the room if you like. There is additional storage space and place to hang clothes in the hallway just outside the room.

Primarily, we are looking for 1 person who is engaged in life (...maybe even making the world a better place), can do their part to keep the place clean and is interested in staying for longer than a few months. Even better, would be to find some ways to collaborate with Das Baumhaus.

:: The Apartment ::

We live on the 3rd floor facing south of a 140 qm (1500 SqFt) apartment close to S/U-Wedding on Gerichtstr..  Inside we have 2 rooms of common space totaling 50 qm (540 SqFt) with a kitchen in between , 1 bathroom with a shower and a bath tub, a medium size balcony and some storage space.  We have relatively new energy efficient appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, fridge).  We have 2 really great 13 year old cats named ‘Boy’ and ‘Girl’. Sometimes parts of our common rooms get temporarily used as a internal project space for Baumhaus stuff.


:: The Deal ::

The rent covers all costs including electricity (Green Peace), gas heating (Green Peace), Nebenkosten and wireless internet. We are asking for 1 month security deposit (Kaution). We ask people who live with us to chip in for regular house supplies and maintenance cost in case things break or need to maintained.

We are flexible regarding how long you would like to stay, it is also possible to agree on a trial period to evaluate the living situation and then we can give each other feedback then decide how to continue from there.

We like to keep the apartment clean and tidy so have developed some simple and transparent systems that facilitate the process of everyone contributing equally to keeping the house clean.


:: The Neighborhood ::

Our neighborhood is getting pretty good at resisting the worst parts of gentrification. There are several interesting culture locations all around, most places are owed and run by local people and most of us even know each other. The result is that you can walk to any of the grocery stores that are super close and have a good chance of getting stopped by a neighbor for a friendly chat. In general, the vibe is quite good and down to earth...
