More information about me

Dear Berliners,
Truth be told, as you all know the housing market in the city is a complete mess, and it has caused me lots of stress, having to move from sublet to sublet, four already this year. But I stay optimistic, convinced that with a positive attitude I will find a room for long term, where I can finally settle and that I can call home. I don't ask for much, but one thing essential is to be surrounded by respectful, queer (friendly) folks. Do you have a room available, and does the idea of a sweet, positive minded queer flatmate resonate with you, then continue reading, and you might be the one who can offer me a much needed safe space!

1 Who am I? First, the basics: I'm a 27 y/o queer vegetarian (he/him) with a degree in political science, having lived here for 2 yrs. Now on to the more exciting things! Personality wise I see myself as an honest, genuinely kind & sweet person. It comes natural to me to start conversations, find common ground, discuss topics from languages and politics to photography and princess Diana. When appropriate with a touch of good humor, not in the least by using several accents (it's a talent).

2 What I do in life? Working full-time answering customer's questions on the phone to pay my bills, I have quite a stable life. After I close my laptop, music goes on I listen (and sing) to Bowie, Queen, ABBA or a calming jazz song. Don't worry, mostly on my headphones. This winter I want to explore my creativity more, by taking singing/acting classes, and I consider starting to perform (if my nerves allow it). If it’s not music, you could find me following news and politics, cycling in nature or browse through thrift shops. Whenever I can, I enjoy traveling usually on my own. Last but not least, I have a great passion for the Italian language, and I'm trying to improve my language skills.

3 My idea of a good WG life. Clear communication is key, I can safely say after 9 years of sharing houses. Rather telling what’s on your chest, then to keep it for yourself. I’m organized and clean up after myself, and are keen to keep the flat tidy. Dynamic wise most important is to look after each other, checking how someone is doing, and helping each other out when needed. All the rest will follow naturally, whether it’s a chat in the kitchen or to open a bottle of wine. Meanwhile, you have your own lives, and so it’s good to have respect for people’s need for me-time. The stereotype of the Dutch and their weed doesn't hold for me, as I don't smoke or in fact use drugs in general.

After having read my story, are you intrigued, and thinking ‘yes, that Dutch guy could vibe in my WG’? Then, please feel free to send me a message! I’d love to know more, and we could meet to get to know each other!

Best of luck,
Edwin (@edwin_jonkman)
