Schon mal von einer funktionalen WG gehört? In unserem Fall bedeutet das, dass wir alle Räume teilen. Ein Wohnzimmer, ein Büro, ein großes Schlafzimmer, ein kleines Schlafzimmer, einen multifunktionalen Rückzugs-/Ruheraum, Küche, Bad und Klo. Klingt crazy, hat sich aber sehr bewährt und wir feierns sehr, seit bald 4 Jahren.
Unser Wohnzimmer ist der gemütlichste Raum und der Ort, an dem wir gemeinsam abhängen, essen, Musik machen (selten aber doch), filmschaun und so. Im Büro herrscht immer wieder mal erschreckend produktive Stimmung und mehrere Menschen kleben an ihren Bildschirmen. Ab und zu wird die Produktivität aber von spontanen Gesprächen unterbrochen. Für Online-Meetings müssen auch öfters das Ruhezimmer oder die Schlafzimmer herhalten. WLAN ist gut. So prinzipiell halten wir uns nicht sehr konsequent an die Kategorien, die wir den Räumen zugeordnet haben.
Jede*r hat sein eigenes Bett (entweder im 4er oder im 2er Schlafzimmer), das ist der Ort den mensch selbst, nur für sich gestalten und besetzen kann. Das Ruhezimmer wird je nach Bedarf genüzt um Privatsphäre zu haben, beispielsweise für Online-Meetings, Meditation, Yoga, ein Date, ein Fotoshooting… Was hat dieses Zimmer noch nicht erlebt???

Ever heard of functional living? In our case it means that we share all rooms. We have one living room (24m^2), one office (22m^2), one big bedroom (20m^2), one small bedroom (8m^2), one multifunctional room (12m^2), a kitchen, toilet and bathroom. Sounds crazy, but until now it hase worked pretty well for almost 4 years!
The living room is the coziest room, a place where we hang out, eat, make music, jam, play games and do movie-nights together. The office: every now and then there is a frighteningly productive mood and people are glued to their screens. Sometimes, however, the productivity is interrupted by spontaneous, sometimes motivational, conversations. For online meetings we usually us the multifunctional room or one of the bedrooms (WLAN is quite good). We aren’t very consistent to the functions of the room: sometimes the office becomes a fitness room and the living room to a dormitory, with mattresses all over the floor…
Everybody has his/her own bed (either in the 4-bedroom or in the 2-bedroom), which is the place you can design and occupy just for yourself. The multifunctional room is used for privacy, whether it is online meetings, meditation, yoga, a date, a photo shoot… A lot of things have happened in that room!!!
Im Herzen Ottakrings, ums Eck vom Brunnenmarkt, im Falafel und Fladenbrot Paradies, da wo’s je nach Windrichtung entweder nach Ottakringer Brauerei oder nach Mannerfabrik duftet oder manchmal auch nach einem undefinierbaren Mischmasch. You gotta love it! Der Yppenplatz ist ebenso in ca 5 Minuten zu erreichen, falls du’s lieber ein bissi mehr Bobo magst. Bei den U6 Stationen Thaliastraße und Josefstädterstraße bist du in ca. 7 Minuten und die 2er und 46er Bim fahren quasi eh vor der Haustüre weg. Nur das nächste Stück Grün ist ein Stückchen weiter weg…zu den Steinhofgründen braucht man aber nur um die 20-30 Minuten. Vor unserem Haus versuchen wir mit einer kleinen "Grätzloase" die Auto-Straße zu verschönern.

The flat is located In the heart of Ottakring, around the corner from Brunnenmarkt, the falafel and bread paradise. Depending on the wind direction you can smell the Ottakringer brewery or Manner factory or sometimes also an indefinable mishmash. You gotta love it! Yppenplatz is also about 5 minutes away, if you prefer a bit more bobo. The U6 stations Thaliastraße and Josefstädterstraße are about 7 minutes by foot and tram 2 and 46 basically leave from the front door. Only the next piece of green is a bit further away… but you only need about 20-30 minutes to get to Steinhofgründe. To make the grey stree in front of our flat more comfortable (and so we look at some green out of the office), we have installed a “Grätzloase”, a small sitting area.
Unsere selbst gewählte Wohnform bringt einige, aus unserer Sicht überwiegend positive, Aspekte in Bezug auf das WG-Leben mit. Wir bekommen sehr viel voneinander mit und es passieren sehr viele spontane Begegnungen, Aktionen, Kochsessions, Diskussionen, ...
Kurz zu uns. Wir sind eine Sechser-WG. Zwecks Vollständigkeit erwähnen wir hier
David (er/ihn) lebt am längsten hier, er hat gerade seinen Master in Umwelt- und Bioressourcenmanagement abgeschlossen und geht für ein paar Monate ins Ausland, sein Platz wird vorübergehend frei.
Franz (er/ihn) hat gerade seinen Bachelor in Landschaftsplanung oder so abgeschlossen, geht mit März für 3 Monate zurück in die Schweiz für den Zivildienst und kommt dann wieder.
Felix (er/ihn), studiert einen englischen Master über Fische und Flüsse auf der BOKU. Er ist unser WG-Tischler-Masseur-Romantiker-Fußballer. Er heitert die WG-Stimmung vor allem mit seinen Backkünsten auf. Auch wenns im Unistress oft zu kurz kommt, verzaubert er gerne mit seinen Gitarrenkünsten und seiner holden Stimme.
Ruth (sie/ihr), hat zwei Jobs im Klima-, Mobilitäts-, Bildungs-, Partizipations-bereich. Niemand versteht was sie genau macht, aber ihre Erzählungen klingen immer sehr beeindruckend. Offiziell ist sie auch für Humangeographie auf der Uni Wien inskribiert, möchte heuer ihre Masterarbeit schreiben (good luck) und lernt BKS. Sie hat außerdem die Wiener Klimagerechtigkeitsbewegung mitgeprägt und tut das noch immer.
Sasha (sie/ihr), studiert Psychologie im Master und Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie. Sie arbeitet zur Zeit noch in Berlin und zieht im März wieder ein. Eigentlich ist ihre Hauptbeschäftigung und Leidenschaft Zirkus. Sie macht eine Zirkusausbildung und organisiert zum Zweiten mal eine Zirkus-Convention. Du willst Handstand üben? Ask her! Wenn ihr jemand eine Mischung aus Russisch, Englisch- Spanisch und Deutsch sprechen hört, das ist Sasha beim Telefonieren. Wenn jemand spanische Lieder singt und auf der Gitarre begleitet, that’s her!
Juliane (sie/ihr), beschäftigt sich im Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie Bachelor mit Gender, Intersektionalität und koloniale Kulturgüter. Sie hängt gern im „Weltmuseum“ (auch wenn sie diesen Begriff kritisch sieht) ab, arbeitet bei der ÖH und macht eine Yoga-Ausbildung. Sie liebt Grießbrei, lässt sich hin und wieder für Inlinern begeistern und beherrscht aus irgendeinem Grund die Jugendsprache.
Johanna (sie/ihr), verbindet die Themen Klimakrise und Psychotherapie in ihrem Studium und persönlichen Engagement. Niemand sonst kann die gesamte WG so sehr mit ihren Geschichten und Erfahrungen aus der Ausbildung fesseln wie Johanna. Auch sie hat in der Klimagerechtigkeitsbewegung mitgemischt. Wenn du denkst es läuft im Wohnzimmer gerade eine wunderschöne Spotify-Klavierplaylist, thats her, beim Spielen.
Shit, jetzt haben wir uns primär über Ausbildung und so definiert. Diese spielen eine zentrale Rolle in unserem Alltag, dennoch streben wir nach einem wertschätzenden Zusammenleben, unabhängig von der eigenen Beschäftigung. Uns ist wichtig, dass sich alle zuhause fühlen, gehen gemeinsam durch Krisen und wünschen uns, dass Platz für Freude, Spaß aber auch Trauer und Verletzlichkeit ist. Wir bemühen uns unsere Privilegien zu reflektieren, Diskriminierung sichtbar zu machen und abzubauen, wissend, dass uns das nicht immer gelingen wird. Wir bringen unterschiedliche regionale Prägungen mit, primär vom deutschsprachigen Raum, vom tiefsten oberösterreichischen Dialekt bis Berlin. Wollen aber vor allem auch Menschen ermutigen sich bei uns zu melden die diese Gemeinsamkeit nicht teilen.
Es gibt ein paar Dinge, an die wir wirklich alle glauben, das ist gutes Essen (überwiegend vegan), Radfahren, ein gutes Leben für alle, hin und wieder Yoga, Deeptalks und …
Es gibt nicht nur uns in diesem tollen Haus, sondern auch zwei andere sehr eng befreundete WGs mit denen wir uns über Telegram organisieren, öfter gemeinsame Filmabende, Koch und Punschaktionen oä machen. Und ansonsten 5 weniger eng befreundete Parteien, die auch alle sehr nett und entspannt sind. Dich erwartet also eine feine Hausgemeinschaft. Besonderes Schmankerl und unser aller Lieblingsort ist der gemeinsame Innenhof (siehe Fotos) oder bei wärmeren Temperaturen auch unser 2. Wohnzimmer. Hier kann nicht nur gegrillt, gechillt, kaffetschlt, jongliert und yogiert werden, sondern es schläft sich im Sommer dort auch mal fein unterm Sternenhimmel.

Our form of living brings (mostly positive) aspects in relation to the life in the flat. We get to know a lot about each other. There are a lot of spontaneous encounters, actions, excursions, cooking sessions, discussions, sport sessions, jamming sessions, night study sessions, projects, etc.
Something about the individual people… Our flat-sharing community is made up of six people. However, for the sake of integrity we will mention…
David (he/him) has lived here the longest and just finished his Master in Environmental and Bioresource Management. He will be going abroad for a few months and his place/bed is temporarily free.
Franz (he/him) just finished his bachelor’s degree in landscape planning and is going back to Switzerland (where he is from) for 3 months in March for community service, so his place/bed is temporarily free as well.
Felix (he/him) is studying a master’s degree about fich and rivers at BOKU. He is out carpenter-masseur-romantic-footballer. Moreover, he brightens up the mood with his amazing baking skills or enchanting the atmosphere with his guitar skills and lovely voice.
Ruth (she/her) has two jobs dealing with climate, mobility, education and participation. No one quite understands what she does exactly, but her stories are always very impressive. She helped shape the Vienna climate justice movement and still does so today. Officially, she is also enrolled in the humanistic geography department at the University of Vienna and wants to write her master thesis this year. She is also learning BKS.
Sasha (she/her) is studying social and cultural anthropology and is also currently writing her master thesis in psychology. She is currently working in Berlin, but will move back into the flat in March. Actually, her passion is circus. She trains at the Zirkusakademie to become a kids circus trainer and is organizing a circus convention. You want to practice your handstand? Ask her! And if you hear someone speaking a mix of Russian, English, Spanish and German that would be Sasha talking on the phone. She also likes to sing and play Spanish songs on the guitar.
Juliane (she/her) is studying social and sculptural anthropology, focussing on gender intersectionality and colonial cultural assets. She likes to hang out at the Weltmuseum (even though she is critical of this term), works at ÖH and is doing a yoga apprenticeship. She loves semolina porridge, inline skating and has a decent knowledge of youth language, for some reason…
Johanna (she/her) combines climate crisis and psychotherapy in her studies as well as in her personal life. Noone can captivate the entire flat as Johanna does with her stories and experiences from her education. Also, if you here beautiful piano music and think its just one of those Spotify playlists? You’re wrong! That’s Johanna playing.
Well now we have primarily defined ourselves by what we study or work… The do play a central role in our daily lives, but we strive to live together in an esteeming way, regardless of one’s occupation. It is important to us, that everyone feels at home. We want there to be room for happiness, joy and funn, but also sadness and vulnerability: we support each other through hard, emotional crises, as well as celebratory times. We strive to reflect our privileges, to be conscious of discrimnation, to dismantle it, although we know that we will not always be able to succeed it. We contribute different regional and cultural backgrounds, primarily from German-speaking regions (from Upper Austria to Berlin). But above all, we want to encourage people, who do not share this common ground, to contact us.
There are a few things we all believe in: good (mostly vegan) food, cycling, a fair and good life for all, yoga/sport activities, deeptalks, climate crisis…
Besides our flat there are 2 other shared flat in the house with whom we are very close. Sometimes we organise cooking sessions or film-nights together. We know most of the other people living in the house, who are all very friendly.
A special treat and our favorite place in the house is the inner courtyard, also known as the 2nd living room in the summer. Here you can not only barbecue, chill out, study, have lunch tor coffee together, juggle and train, but also sleep under the stars!
