Hello,

I am an English girl, 31, looking for a room in Berlin. I came to visit some friends earlier in the summer, and fell in love with the city – so now I’m looking for a permanent place to live.

At the moment I speak only English and French, but I’m going to start learning German in September at the Volkshochschule.

Ideally I’d like to live with at least two or three other people – I’m friendly and social, and I like to share dinners and spend time with my flatmates. I really enjoy cooking, so I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I make jam, granola, cookies and other nice things.

About me: my two main interests are art and literature. I studied art, and then did a masters in art theory in London. Now I work as a freelance editor for books on philosophy and art history.

I read a lot – at the moment I’m reading Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Rilke’s Ahead of All Parting. But my favourite book is E. M. Forster’s Howard’s End. I like how the book poses a conflict between a life of culture and emotion and a life of financial security and possessions. In the end it isn’t clear that either is possible in isolation. Perhaps we have to balance the two, or at least one might be made possible through the other. I also write articles about art exhibitions or shows. I’m planning to spend more time writing over the next year or so, and hopefully will be able to publish more articles. Movies are also really important to me; my favourite films are Somersault and Pierrot le Fou. I like films that are about internal movements or happenings, or else that are slightly crazy and which open up new possibilities for ways of being. I think, though, that my all-time favourite things to do are swimming outdoors in a lake or a river, and dancing.

Usually I work on my computer during the day, either from home or at a café. Then in the evenings I like to spend time with friends or relax with a book. At the weekends I go to galleries, spend time cooking, or just hang out with friends having dinner or going out to bars or concerts. It’s important to me to live in a calm and friendly environment. I’m clean, tidy, and respectful of other people’s space. It’s important to me that my home is a pleasant place to be and well looked after.

I'm looking for a big room in a flat with other creative people. I don't mind if the space is a little rough or undecorated – in fact the more room there is for being creative with the space, the better. It would be nice to share with other social people who like to spend time together, listen to music, and talk about the things we love. I'd also like to bring some of my own furniture if possible.

If you have a room available and think we might get along, please contact me at . I’d like to live in Kreuzberg or Neukölln if possible, but I’m open to most areas. The main thing is that I’d like a big room, with lots of space. My budget is also flexible. I could move in at the beginning of September or the beginning of October.
