Building : The apartment is located on the top floor of a postwar 1959 building and is accessible via the original wooden elevator. The outlook is East-West, in the mornings the sun comes in the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen; from around 2pm onwards the main room has sun until sunset. The backyard has views to a very large park-like ‘Hof’, in winter you see the Fernsehturm in the distance and in summer once the leaves are back it is completely green and private. The place is very peaceful and quiet and we rarely hear the neighbours. Apartment : The apartment is 50sqm, it has had a couple walls removed and its floor-plan reconfigured to make it highly functional and spacious. The floor is linoleum through-out, bar the bathroom which is tiled. The windows are all the original wooden. The building has been well insulated on the front and back, and the open heater pipes mean the place is always warm in winter. It has been used as both a living and working space for two people. It has two set working desk options, plus a main table that can be used for dining and/or working etc. Furniture is a collection of new and secondhand finds plus a few self built things. The place has a great atmosphere for both working and relaxing, and is well set up in particular for anybody just coming to Berlin. – Kitchen is fully equipped, has an AEG oven and fridge and a lot of bench space. It also has a couple sitting options in it for casual morning coffee in the sun. – Bathroom with bath. Washing machine under the bench. – There’s a large storage cupboard with plenty of shelving and a basic printer and scanner set up. – In summer the balcony is great for drinks and sunset views over the adjacent roof tops.
Location: Wilnackerstr, Moabit. Moabit – part of the Berlin’s central district Mitte – is an island surrounded by canals and the river Spree. It is a wonderful calm suburb with a lot a water and green areas. The Hauptbahnhof is reachable in a 15 minute walk through the Fritz Schloss (a park and recreational area with playgrounds, running tracks, rock climbing, skateboarding, soccer, tennis, the Vabali Spa.) Getting to other suburbs is very quick via the S-Bahn Bellevue (S5, S3, S7, S9) and from there both Charlottenburg and Mitte shopping areas are reachable in a short distance ticket. Turmstrasse and Birkenstrasse Ubahn (U9) and Westhafen (S-bahn Ring) are all also a short walk. Moabit has plenty of food and drink options such as Honig-Gelb cafe, Sapori di Casa, Arminius Markthalle, Hummusapiens wraps, George R cocktails, Good Bank. There are a lot of supermarket options around – such as LPG, Reformhaus, EDEKA, Netto, Kaufland. Plus there's a great local market weekly across the Spree in the Hansaviertal district. Some of the many cultural things close by are: Hamburgerbahnhof Museum, Tiergarten, Berliner Philharmonie, HKW, Akadamie der Künste, Neue Nationalgalerie, ZK/U Berlin. The governmental district with the Kanzleramt, Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor are in walking and biking distance via the Spree.
