Tucked up against the San Gabriel National Monument. Very beautiful mountains that can be accessed out the front door!
Altadena is a nice mellow area that is roughly 10 minutes from Old Town Pasadena and 25/35 minutes to Downtown LA/Chinatown and Silver Lake/Echo Park. There are some grocery stores in the neighborhood but Pasadena has everything you could ever want (2 Whole Foods, multiple Trader Joe's + lots of local shops, restaurants and cafes for all your dining pleasure).
