Hallo ihr Lieben,
We, Joanna and Frank, live in this beautiful, spacious townhouse in Karlshorst and are looking for people to move in with us in August :) The space and price are best suited for a couple, but we are also open to living with an individual (price may be a bit negotiable if you would move in alone). We currently live with a couple, but they are starting a family and moving away :(
The house extends over four floors, with four separate rooms (two bedrooms), a living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, an attic, and other storage space, winter garden, and garden — allowing plenty of space for everyone. We share one room, you would have your own bedroom (unfurnished unless you need essentials!), and then there are two more communal rooms -- currently a coworking space and a guest/multifunction room.
Anmeldung is possible.
Beautiful and calm Karlshorst is just a few stations away from Ostkreuz — you get to enjoy the quiet and proximity to nature while still being close to the Ring. Public transport is 300 meters away (Tram lines M17, 21, 27), with the S Karlshorst station (S3) a 12-minute walk away. Edeka is the nearest grocery store, 10 minutes on foot.
The center of Karlshorst offers more grocery options, bakeries, and shops. Friedrichshain is the closest Kiez with more restaurants, bars, etc. -- 15-20 minutes by public transport or bike. Kreuzberg and Neukölln are 25-30 minutes by bike. Alexanderplatz and Friedrichstraße are 30 minutes away by S-Bahn.
The Wuhlheide city forest is within walking distance. Ideal for folks who enjoy spending time outside / doing sports outside!
Two years ago, we decided to move outside the ring to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and have the chance to be active in our own garden. Living in a shared house in a quieter neighborhood feels like the perfect balance for us, and we’re hoping to find people who feel the same — who are excited about being a bit further out, surrounded by more green, while still wanting to live communally (this is not a Zweck-WG!) We’d love to live with people who are just as enthusiastic about the opportunity to live in a house as we are, and who enjoy taking initiative and working on shared projects — there’s so much potential here!
A bit about us, in the hopes of finding a truly harmonious living arrangement:
Joanna is 29 and is currently finishing her Masters at the Institut für Kunst im Kontext at the UdK. She studied Fine Art in Boston, and moved to Berlin 7 years ago. She loves to cycle and has done several bikepacking trips in the last few years. Generally, fitness is a big component of her life: gym, yoga, dance, and handstand practice, you name it... plus she currently works as a spin instructor. She is vegetarian and likes cooking with others. In her downtime, you can mostly find her knitting or doing crosswords (like the true octogenarian she is.)
Frank is 32, works as an architect, and has a penchant for analog photography. When he’s not listening to a podcast, he is busy scanning the deepest depths of Kleinanzeigen to find obscure items or cooking an elaborate meal. He likes playing basketball at local courts with friends and generally enjoys other team sports. Otherwise, you might find him in second-hand shops and flea markets (Karlshorst has the best one, once a month at the Trabrennbahn)! He also likes to cycle around and discover new areas in Berlin.
Last but not least, belonging to the group is Dexter, a cat with a lot of personality. He is 4 years old and has accompanied Joanna on many adventures. He is an outdoor cat and mostly hangs outside. However, he will also be in the house (moreso in the winter), so unfortunately for those allergic to cats, this is not a good fit :(. Dexter can sometimes be cuddly but is usually independent.
WG-Leben… We prioritize cleanliness and open communication. Let's meet to see if it's a good fit, and the rest we can figure out together, ensuring a comfortable and safe space for everyone.
Deutsch geht natürlich auch. Frank ist Muttersprachler und Joanna kann die Sprache fließend. Zu Hause sprechen wir meist eine Mischung aus Deutsch und Englisch, also Denglisch if you will ;).
P.S. It’s hard to get a sense of the layout of the house from the pictures - if you're interested, we can set up a viewing / have a video chat, get to know each other & then you can see :)
We look forward to getting to know you! Please tell us a bit about you and your interests when you write us :)
