Hello folks, my flatmate needs replacement so his room is available as of May 5th.
Said room isn't terribly big by Berlin standards (~18sqm) but it's cosy, has a double bed (bring your own sheets), a bedside table and one of these ikea kallax shelves. It has a window to the backyard and some walls around it. The last flatmate pimped it a bit since I took the photos, it now has a quite pleasant loungy corner.
The flat is another thing entirely. The kitchen is fairly big and well furnished. It has a wood oven which is possibly the nicest way to keep warm in winter—it's a few minutes of work but feels so good. The bathroom is large and bright, a bit cold in winter, nothing our electric heater can't remedy. I'm putting it out there, this place can get cold: it's an altbau, and it's in Berlin. There is also a large hallway which I should tidy up a bit, in the heights of which is concealed a guest room, quite convenient but not to be overused.
Oppelener Straße is at the heart of the Wrangelkiez, lovingly nested between Schlesisches Tor and Görlitzer Park. There are plenty of options of cheap and delicious food, a Rewe, and Bio Company, a smaller bioladen, a Turkish supermarket and an Asian grocery store. We're just 2 minutes walk from the U1 and U3. And we're in good terms with all the neighbours. This IS important so you'll be asked to keep it so.
Adjacent to the flat is the very best feature for like-minded people, or a total nightmare for the others. Please make sure you read through this so we don't waste each other's time. I hate to resort to such cheap tricks, but do show you went through this by starting your message with the word 'greetings'. So, the flat exists in conjunction with a shared Atelier Äuglein, a collective space where artists and independent workers rent some work space, long-term, and keep themselves busy with their own thing. This has, of course, pros and cons, and in my opinion they are:
— pros: lovely people, big bright public room where you can hang out, direct access to the street, possibility to take a table out to have breakfast in the sun (mostly applies in summer), sound studio in the basement, monthly experimental music event (if you see that as a con, please do not apply);
— cons: people around when you get home (possibility to use alternate entrance though), bathroom situation (we're progressively solving this: there used to be only one, shared between flat and atelier. We now split it in two and life is much better. I still need to put up some wallpaper on the new wall and a bit of plaster here and there).
Now a bit about me, I guess. I am a 34 years old french designer, working in the field of speculative fiction through design and performance projects. I also organise the aforementioned experimental music Sunday afternoons, and manage operations of the atelier—I have my desk there, so I'm generally having lunch at home. I am seldom there in the evening though, as I have pretty much relocated to my girlfriend's place. Still you will see me so some basics of living together: I don't eat meaty things, smoke, do drugs or religious things, but you are free to do what you want—as long as we can be respectful and considerate about differences in lifestyle. Do note though: the only one allowed to smoke in the kitchen is the oven.
EDIT: I used to not care what you eat, but a bad experience with a daily-sausage-grilling-flatmate intoxicating the entire atelier makes me wish for a flatmate with a vegetarian or vegan diet—here's a way to get extra points.
The flat is available from may 5th for long-term rent. Any of us can decide to stop the renting with a 1-month notice, for whichever reason—plans changed, mind changed, discomfort... all is valid.
I think that's about it, I'll answer to all who can show they bothered reading through the ad. Judging by the amount of emails I got in the first 30 seconds, that's not everyone.
