Hallo!
Wir sind auf der Suche nach neuen Mitbewohnis für unsere Wohngemeinschaft. Hier sollte nun eigentlich etwas über dein neues Zimmer stehen, doch so einfach ist es nicht.
Seit über 5 Jahren wohnen wir nun in unserer kreativ gestalteten Wohnung im Madamenweg mit zwölf Leuten. Mehr zu uns weiter unten. Wir haben viele Zimmer, die wir zusammen bewohnen. Wir teilen uns alle Zimmer gemeinsam und haben eine große Küche, drei Bäder und ein Wohnzimmer. Wir wohnen mit zwei bis drei Menschen mehr als (Schlaf-)Zimmer vorhanden sind. Wir haben insgesamt 8 Schlafzimmer. In drei Zimmern haben wir mehrere Betten während die anderen einzeln belegt werden können. Die Zimmer sind also nicht einzelnen Personen zugeordnet sondern wir gestalten sie gemeinsam. Warum? Es zeigt sich, dass fast jede Nacht irgendjemand nicht da ist, weil er oder sie z.B. auf Reisen ist, bei dem*der Partner*In ist etc. Also auch mit „zu wenig“ Zimmern hat in der Regel jede Person ihren eigenen und meistens auch denselben Raum für die Nächte. Zusätzlich ist es natürlich auch schön mit anderen Menschen gemeinsam in einem Zimmer zu schlafen. Das bedeutet natürlich, dass man sich die Zimmer teilt und eben kein privates Zimmer besitzt, es aber trotzdem Raum für Privates gibt.
Den Schlafräumen haben wir tagsüber weitere Funktionen zugeordnet, etwa Einzel- und Gruppenarbeitsplätze. Wir haben also auch genug Platz fürs Homeoffice/Heimstudium auch in Corona-Zeiten und du kannst sogar Schlaf und Arbeitsraum trennen :) Dazu ist auch immer Raum für Musik, Sport, etc.
Wie genau wir uns das vorstellen, können wir am besten persönlich besprechen und wünschen uns, dass auch du deine Ideen zur Wohnungsgestaltung einbringst.
Neben den gemeinschaftlich genutzten (Schlaf-)Zimmern gibt es eine große Küche mit Essbereich wo wir mit 12 oder mehr Leuten ohne Probleme essen können, ein Wohnzimmer, zwei Badezimmer mit WC und ein reines WC, einen Raum den wir als Werkstatt nutzen mit angrenzendem Balkon und einen kleinen Bereich im Innenhof, den wir gestalten können.
In Abhängigkeit davon, wie viele Menschen hier wohnen, wird die Miete angepasst. Der oben genannte Mietpreis wird dementsprechend reduziert. Teurer soll es nicht werden.
==Our rooms==

We’re looking for new folks to share our living space with. Normally, a description of your new room would follow at this point, but… it’s a little more complicated than that. Our creatively organized flat on Madamenweg has been around for over five years now, with up to twelve people calling it home. (More about us below.) Apart from our large kitchen, our three bathrooms and our living room, we use the many other rooms of our flat as our shared collective living space. There are two or three more people living here than there are rooms (eight bedrooms altogether). Three of the bedrooms have several beds and the others are single-occupancy rooms. In this way, the people living here don’t have “their own” rooms – instead, we decide together how the rooms should look and what should be in them. Why do we do this? At some point in the past, we noticed that there’s at least one night every week when someone isn’t here – they might be on the road, staying at their partner’s place, etc. So, even if it seems like there aren’t enough rooms for the number of people, each person usually has their own room from one night to the next, and it’s usually the same room. But sleeping in the same room with others can have its perks, too! Naturally, this involves sharing the rooms, but there’s always space somewhere in the flat for when we need privacy.
During the day, the rooms double as workspaces (for people working on their own or in groups). This gives us all enough space to study and work from home – which is important while so many coronavirus restrictions are still in place. We even manage to keep our sleeping and working spaces separate, with some space left over for making music, working out, etc.
You might be asking how we make all this work! The easiest way to answer your questions is for you to stop by so we can chat face to face. We also want you to contribute your own ideas. We want our living space to work for everyone!
Apart from our collective (bed)rooms, there’s the dining area of our large kitchen, which can easily seat 12 (or more), plus our living room, two full bathrooms and an additional toilet.We adjust the rent to reflect the number of people who live here. The amount shown above may be reduced accordingly but shouldn’t increase.
Unsere Wohnung ist hauptsächlich auf einen Innenhof ausgerichtet, weshalb wir keine Probleme mit Straßenlärm haben. Tagsüber hört man die Kinder von der benachbarten Schule und Vögel, die es sich auf der großen Kastanie im Hof gutgehen lassen.
Von unserem Haus kannst du eigentlich alles in Braunschweig in 20 Minuten mit dem Rad erreichen. 2 Minuten zur HBK, 10 Minuten zur TU (auf schöner Strecke durchs "Grüne"), 5 Minuten in die Innenstadt, 2 Bushaltestellen sind nur wenige Meter entfernt. Zum Bahnhof sind es mit dem Rad 15 Minuten. Auch Parks und Grünflächen, wie z.B. der Westpark oder das Ringgleis, sind direkt um die Ecke (5 Minuten).
==Where we’re located==
Most of the rooms in our flat face a courtyard, so noise from the street isn’t usually a problem. During the day, we can hear kids playing in the school playground next door and birds living it up in the big chestnut tree in the courtyard.
From our house, you can get pretty much anywhere in Braunschweig on your bike in 20 minutes: you can reach the HBK (Braunschweig University of Art) in two minutes, the Technische Universität (TU) in ten (a pretty route along tree-lined streets), and the city center in five. There are two bus stops only a few meters away. You can cycle to the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) in 15 minutes, and parks and green areas like Westpark and the “Ringgleis” (a rail-to-trail cycling and pedestrian path encircling the city center) are only five minutes away.

Wir sind ein bunter Haufen von Menschen, die nicht nur zufällig in der gleichen Wohnung leben, sondern ihr alltägliches Leben (mal mehr, mal weniger) gemeinsam gestalten. Wir nehmen das Wort „Gemeinschaft“ in „Wohngemeinschaft“ also ernst. Gerade ist es so, dass wir Corona-bedingt viel Zeit in der WG verbringen (was wir sehr schön finden und auch sehr gut klappt) und meist nur Wochenweise einzelne Personen nicht da sind.
Ob arbeitend, rumsitzend, laufend, fahrradfahrend, schwimmend, bastelnd, nähend, nerdend, birdend, gärtnernd, singend, musizierend oder was auch immer... oft wird abends gemeinsam vegan/vegetarisch gekocht und gegessen, ab und zu wird von manchen aber auch zusätzlich containertes Fleisch gegessen.
Zur Klarstellung: Wir sind keine studentische Verbindung und haben auch nichts mit Esoterik oder so am Hut. Wir haben unterschiedliche (politische) Einstellungen innerhalb des links grünen Spektrums. Wir versuchen so offen wie möglich zu sein, aber natürlich solltest du schon in gewisser Weise bei uns „reinpassen“. Lern uns einfach kennen.
Viele von uns sind in politischen, kulturellen oder sportlichen Gruppen aktiv. Wir containern einen Großteil unserer Lebensmittel, sind bei Foodsharing aktiv und den kleinen Rest, den wir dann noch benötigen, kaufen wir biologisch und vegan. Um Essen dreht sich bei uns übrigens eh recht viel ;-)
Für uns hat das gemeinschaftliche, ressourcenschonende, solidarische, aktive Leben, indem wir unsere Umwelt gestalten einen hohen Stellenwert. Das WG-Leben beschränkt sich nicht auf gemeinsames Essen – wir sind mehr als nur ‚keine-Zweck-WG‘, denn wir organisieren unseren Alltag und (Zusammen-)leben gemeinsam. Darauf solltest du Lust und Zeit haben. Wenn du z.B. nur ab und zu nett gemeinsam Essen oder Feiern gehen magst, dann würde es vermutlich nicht so passen. Wir teilen das Ideal des gemeinschaftlichen Zusammenlebens, was für uns nicht nur WG während des Studiums bedeutet, auch wenn es nicht heißt, dass wir alle auf ewig zusammenwohnen bleiben.
Alle von uns bringen sich auf unterschiedlichste Art in die Gesellschaft ein und auch vom Alter sind wir recht gemischt: Die Erwachsen sind zwischen 23 und 41 und es gibt ein Kleinkind - 12 ganz unterschiedliche Menschen.

==Life in our shared flat==
Welcome!
Those who make up our motley crew don’t just occupy the same space – we regularly sit down together to work out what our day-to-day life should look like. (Sometimes all of us are involved, other times only some of us are.) The German for “shared flat”, Wohngemeinschaft (WG), contains the word “Gemeinschaft”, or “community”, and the element of community means a lot to us. Since Covid has hit, we’ve been spending an awful lot of time at home – but fortunately, we enjoy this and have managed to make it work well. Now and then, one or two of us may be absent for a week or two at a time, but otherwise everyone’s here pretty much all the time. You may find us working, hanging around, jogging, cycling, swimming, doing woodworking or DIY, sewing, nerding out, birdwatching, singing, making music or what have you, but we usually come together in the evenings to enjoy a vegan/vegetarian meal we cook together. Some of us also occasionally eat meat that has found its way to us and would otherwise have been thrown away.
Just to keep things clear, we’re not into New Age religions or spirituality, nor are we a university student association (fraternity/sorority). Our political orientations differ somewhat but are all broadly within what might be termed the left-wing/environmentally conscious side of the political spectrum. We try to be as open-minded as possible but still think it’s a good idea that people be a “good fit” for us if they want to live here. The easiest way to know one way or the other is simply to get to know us.
Many of us are active in different groups, be they political, cultural or athletic. A large part of what we eat is either salvaged from supermarket trash cans (“dumpster diving”) or, via the Foodsharing network in which several of us are active, picked up from supermarkets before it lands in the trash. The remaining staple foods we eat on a regular basis are all vegan and organic and purchased from a local co-op. Food is a big part of our lives, you might say. ;-)
It’s very important to us that the life we create together be one that emphasizes community, resource conservation, solidarity, and activism. It’s not just cooking and eating that bring us together! You may have been browsing ads for shared flats in Germany and come across the phrase “keine Zweck-WG” for people whose reasons for living together go beyond just saving money. We want to go one step further and define ourselves not just in terms of what we aren’t, but what we are – we organize our daily activities and (collective) life together, and it’s important to us that you feel the same way (and that you have time to spare for this). If you only occasionally feel like eating and celebrating together, we may not be a good fit for each other. Our shared ideal is one of collaborative cohabitation, which means we don’t just stop living together once we’re handed our university diplomas (but it also doesn’t mean we want to live together forever and ever).
All of us have different ways of contributing to society – and we’re even quite different in terms of our age. Us adults, aged 23 to 41, are just as much at home as the one-year-old child we’re watching grow up fast. Twelve quite different people looking forward to meeting you!
