Finding something in Berlin is difficult, I know. So it's understandable that you write to everyone. Nevertheless... please write only if you have read all this!
--- english below ---
Hallo liebe Suchende,
Dear all,
there will be a free room from 1st of april in our flatshare. There are three of us living here at the moment, but it's also possible to live with four. However, two rooms are quite small and so it turned out that we only have been living here lately just with three. I, Kris (she), have lived here the longest and Gabriel moved in last year in September. And there is also my dog Jori, who came into my life last April. So if you like the idea of living with a dog, that would obviously be nice. Nevertheless, I'm the one who takes care of her and I very rarely ask if someone else could take her out for a walk. I actually take her everywhere with me, as far as it's possible. She is very sweet, sometimes a bit too nervous/excited and non-stop looking for food. She definitely still has a lot to learn. And just because she often has a hard time relaxing, it's even more important to leave her alone and ignore her at home sometimes.
It's a bit difficult to describe what it's like to live together here, because lately it's been more like coming and going - or moving in and out. Gabriel is quite likely to move away again after the summer. He comes from Manchester, lived in London for some time and has been in Berlin since September. Mainly to write. I've read a few of his short stories and I liked them a lot! He's really nice and also quite funny actually. Beside writing, he's currently working in a school teaching English.
Since I will definitely be living here for a long time, all this now is written more from my perspective. After almost 8 years, I feel very much at home here.
Therefore, the most important thing from my side first:
I am looking for a person who is not only looking for a room, but rather for a home! So if you are planning to stay in Berlin and want to find a place to stay for a longer period of time, this could be a good fit! I would like to live with people who want to have conversations that go beyond the daily "how are you?", who like to cook a bit more sometimes and thus open up the possibility of a spontaneous "eat together" - rather than cooking for yourself and eating in front of the computer in your room (even though I like to do that sometimes too, of course). In other words, spending time together because we feel like it and being interested in each other - instead of the obligatory "we should eat together again sometime" because (or even though) we don't really relate.
I want to keep the flat looking nice: more plants, get a projector by next winter at the latest (to watch all the films we always wanted to see or all the seasons of Twin Peaks again...) and plant tomatoes on the terrace again in spring.
Speaking of nice: when you feel at home, I think the cleaning/tidyingjust works out somehow. That's why there is no cleaning plan. But I like it clean and reasonably tidy. We mainly cook vegetarian food, but I don't mind if everyone cooks/puts in the fridge what they want. In principle, I also think it's nice to share certain things, because no one needs three packets of carrots in the fridge.
There is a huge (sunny!) terrace and beyond that a large livingroom/kitchen, 2 bathrooms and 4 rooms. The free room is about 17 sqm and has another balcony (which is accessible from the room and from my room). I built the bed frame once, it will stay there and can be used (140x200). The flat is on the 5th floor and there is a lift. So far the nice facts.
Hard facts: the flat is badly soundproofed! People who have a very light sleep might not be happy here in the long run. Even though mutual consideration, especially at night, is of course important. And unfortunately there is a deposit that has to be paid, as the former flatmates would like to have it back.
Most of the neighbours are relaxed and nice, especially the neighbour below us. But her bedroom is under our living room, so parties and party-like happenings during the week are generally a no-go. But this is not a party flat-sharing community anyhow and I like that. But I do like to drink a vino every now and then and I also like to have friends over in the evenings sometimes (more the weekend then during the week). When several people come to visit, I think it's always nice to mention it to each other briefly. On such occasions, or sometimes just like that in the evening, we also smoke in the living room. But not during the day, then only on the terrace. So if you're very much against smoking, then it probably doesn't fit.
Apart from that, just briefly who I am and what I do: I'm 35, have lived in Berlin for 17 years, play guitar badly (also at home), sing in a punk band, recently started playing drums (also at home/e-drums), would like to make more music in general. But I don't always find the time to do so. I also still study (Bachelor/part-time for 7 years; Spanish/French) and work as a personal assistant. Because I am very slow with my studies and Jori is here now, I am at home a lot at times and read/work here. Sometimes also in the living room, because I can't always focus well in my room. But I try to make sure that the living room doesn't just turns into a study-room. Apart from that, I do this and that, being more or less desperate about the world. I like to cook, also for others, I like karaoke - something by Lady Gaga always works, but rather rarely at home. I'm in a relationship for quite a long time and we obviously also spend time in each other's flatshares. That's why it's important to me that the people I live with also get along somehow with my partner.
If you have come this far and want to write to us, we look forward to receiving an email from you with the subject "pommes". Because not only do we have the best pommes around the corner, but Jori can also do an impressive pommes trick.
