Hi everyone. my girlfriend and I are finally taking some well-deserved holidays, and are looking for respectful, trustworthy people to take care of our places from April 11 to May 1st. Rent is based on what we pay (480/month in my case), so no extra made on your back. For those who prefer the full-flat option, my girlfriend will sublet hers in Friedrichshain (grünberger/warschauer). 50ish sqm, 520€, I'll post a link as soon as it's online.
Back to my room: it is large, bright, has a comfortable double bed, a couch, a stereo that plays discs and vinyls and tapes, a video projector hooked to a playstation 2, a desk facing the window. It's directly on the street so can get a bit noisy sometimes in the weekend, but honestly it's been very fine for me. Some of the furniture I made myself and I really, really care about so I'll insist that you take excellent care of everything.
The flat is an altbau that was renovated in several steps, and often on the cheap, so it can seem a bit wonky but in a way that some will find charming. I has a large kitchen with a wood oven, and a levitating bathtub.
Oppelener Straße is at the heart of the Wrangelkiez, lovingly nested between Schlesisches Tor and Görlitzer Park. There are plenty of options of cheap and delicious food, a Rewe, and Bio Company, a smaller bioladen, a Turkish supermarket and an Asian grocery store. We're just 2 minutes walk from the U1 and U3. And we're in good terms with all the neighbours and you better keep it that way.
Adjacent to the flat is the very best feature for like-minded people, or a total nightmare for the others. Please make sure you read through this so we don't waste each other's time. I hate to resort to such cheap tricks, but do show you went through this by starting your message with the word 'greetings'. So, the flat exists in conjunction with a shared Atelier Äuglein, a collective space where artists and independent workers rent some work space, long-term, and keep themselves busy with their own thing. This has, of course, pros and cons, and in my opinion they are:
— pros: lovely people, big bright public room where you can hang out, direct access to the street, possibility to take a table out to have breakfast in the sun (mostly applies in summer), sound studio in the basement, monthly experimental music event.
— cons: people around when you get home, bathroom situation (we're progressively solving this: there used to be only one, shared between flat and atelier. We now split it in two and life is much better. I still need to put up some wallpaper on the new wall and a bit of plaster here and there). Also the hot water is limited to 50 L so no loooong waaarm shower possible.
I am a 34 years old french designer, working in the field of speculative fiction, but you would be living with Paul, who plays baroque Luth professionally, and is quite often on tour.
And I think that's it, please send me an email (I will not respond to phone calls / texts) if you're interested.
