Aachener Student möchte was Neues sehen (befristet)

erstmal großen Dank, dass du auf meine Anzeige geklickt hast! Das ist schonmal super.

Nach 6 Jahren Studium in Aachen habe ich die Studentenkneipen, Unihandball und den Weg hoch zum Dreiländereck gemeistert. Die Kaiserstadt bleibt mir bestimmt ein besonderer Ort, aber meine Zeit dort ist leider rum, da mich meine Masterarbeit nach Berlin zieht. Deshalb suche ich möglichst schnell einen neuen Anfang hier, vielleicht ja mit dir!

Warum Berlin? Abgesehen von der Masterarbeit finde ich das kulturelle Zusammenspiel zwischen den Regierungsleuten, der Startupszene und dem Technolifestyle faszinierend. Die Konstellation gibt es, soweit ich weiß, nur hier. Ich wäre zudem ganz gerne an einem Ort, wo meine Freunde und Familie mich besuchen wollen—da hält Aachen einfach nicht so gut mit. Ich mag auch Kreativität und fühle es selbst am stärksten, wenn ich von Kreativen umgeben bin. Neben Berlin geben mir Städte wie Brooklyn, Barcelona und St. Petersburg auch dieses Gefühl. Da es mir in Deutschland besonders gut gefällt, fände ich es klasse, nach dem Master erstmal hier etwas länger zu bleiben. (Ich bin übrigens bereits über November in Berlin und kann entsprechend auch spontan für eine Besichtigung vorbeikommen)

Dann erzähle ich wohl ein Bisschen über mich :) Ich bin Colin: 25, Nichtraucher, drogenfrei, Homo, Single, sportbegeistert, US-Amerikaner, Freund der Demokratie. In Berlin werde ich mir als Allererstes einen Rugbyverein, ein Jiu-Jitsu-Gym, oder eine neue Handballmannschaft aussuchen. Ich bin schon ein Partymensch und mal am Wochenende im Technoclub zu sehen. Allerdings bin ich echt happy damit, immer weniger Alkohol zu konsumieren. Ich bin außerdem im Vorstand von AEGEE-Aachen. Der gesamte Verein, von dem wir nur einen Teil ausmachen, fördert konstruktiven Diskurs und Demokratie in über 150 Städten europaweit: das ist eine Community, auf die ich echt stolz bin. Ich fände es gut, ein ähnliches Engagement in Berlin zu suchen.

Von meinem Studium des Wirtschaftsingenieurwesens (Maschinenbau) bleibt wie gesagt nur noch die Masterarbeit offen. Diese werde ich über die Rolle des Lebenspartners auf Gründererfolg schreiben. Was genau danach kommt ist ein Fragezeichen. Ganz ehrlich, jemand, der an diesem Punkt etwas anders vermutet, ist mir ein bisschen suspekt.

Neben alldem lese ich ganz gerne Bücher. Da geht es meistens um Politik oder Geschichte. Die Texte von Anne Applebaum, Upton Sinclair und David Graeber lasse ich mir zum Beispiel nicht entgehen. Ich bin auch dabei, eine Wertschätzung für Romane aufzubauen. Mit The Financial Times und Foreign Affairs halte ich mich auch meistens auf dem aktuellen Stand. Bin natürlich nicht nur literarisch unterwegs: zu meinen Lieblingsserien gehören Derry Girls, Peaky Blinders und Generation Kill. Ich lege hohen Wert auf Interdisziplinarität und suche auf jeden Fall eine WG, mit der man täglich neue Blickwinkel mitnehmen kann. Es wäre für mich ein katastrophaler Misserfolg, wenn ich nur über Zahnradgetriebe reden könnte.

Die letzten Jahre hatte ich mit meinen WGs echt Glück. Wir waren immer kommunikativ, respektvoll und ehrlich – fast schon familiär. Ich hoffe, dass man sich mit der neuen WG in Berlin auch so gut versteht. Ich verstehe die Gemeinschaftsbereiche als solche. Zum Beispiel spüle ich zügig nach dem Kochen und beteilige mich sehr gerne am Kauf des Klopapiers.

In meiner Ernährung bin ich nur mäßig eingeschränkt: ich kaufe inzwischen kein Rindfleisch mehr und habe Milch durch Hafermilch ersetzt. Die größte Einschränkung bei der Diät lässt sich durch meinen Lifestyle des Intervallfastens kennzeichnen. Für euch heißt das aber hauptsächlich: Ich frühstücke nicht.

Ansonsten biete ich als Mitbewohner erstklassige Putzfähigkeiten, tägliche Aufmunterung und Sprachkenntnisse in Deutsch, Englisch, Russisch und etwas Spanisch.

Hello helloo

First of all, thank you for clicking on my ad! That's nice.

After 6 years of studying in Aachen, I’ve mastered the student pubs, intramural handball and the path to the corner where Belgium and The Netherlands converge on Germany. Aachen will certainly hold a special place for me, but my time there is over because my master's thesis is taking me to Berlin. That's why I'm looking for a new start here as soon as possible, maybe with you!

Why Berlin? Apart from the master's thesis, I find the cultural interplay between government officials, the start-up scene and the techno lifestyle fascinating. As far as I know, that constellation only exists here. I would also like to be in a place where my friends and family want to visit me—Aachen just doesn't keep up that well on a global stage when compared to Berlin. I also really like creativity, and I feel it the strongest myself when I'm surrounded by creative people. In addition to Berlin, cities like Brooklyn, Barcelona and St. Petersburg all give me this feeling. I have an affinity for Germany anyway, so I think it would be nice to stay here a while longer after completing my master's degree. (I'm actually already been in Berlin over November and can therefore come by spontaneously for a visit)

Then I guess I'll tell you a bit about myself :) I'm Colin: 25, non-smoker, drug-free, gay, single, sporty, American, friend of democracy. In Berlin, the first thing I will do is find a rugby club, a jiu-jitsu gym, or a new handball team. I'm certainly a party person, and you can now and then find me at the Technoclub on the weekend. However, I am happy to be consuming less and less alcohol. I am also on the board of AEGEE-Aachen. The entire association, of which we are only a chapter, promotes democracy and constructive discourse in over 150 cities across Europe: it’s is a community that I am really proud to be a part of. I think it would be nice to look for a similar commitment in Berlin.

As mentioned, my thesis is the only thing between me and my master’s degree in industrial engineering (mechanical engineering). I will write it on the role a founder’s life partner has on entrepreneurial success. Exactly what comes next is a question mark. Honestly, I'm a bit suspicious of anyone who claims otherwise at this point.

Aside from that, I really enjoy reading books. These are usually about politics or history. For example, I don't miss anything by Anne Applebaum, Upton Sinclair and David Graeber. I'm also in the process of building an appreciation for novels. I also try to keep myself up to date with The Financial Times and Foreign Affairs. Of course, don’t spend all my time with literature: my favorite series include Derry Girls, Peaky Blinders and Generation Kill. Interdisciplinarity is very important to me, and I am certainly looking for a flat share where we can all gather new perspectives every day. It would be a catastrophic failure for me personally if I could only talk about gears.

I've been quite lucky with my flat shares in the last few years. We have always been communicative, respectful and honest - almost like a family. I hope that you and I will get along just as well. I understand common areas as such. For example, I do the dishes quickly after cooking and am very happy to help buy the toilet paper.

I'm only moderately restricted in my diet: I no longer buy beef and have replaced milk with oat milk. The biggest limitation is my lifestyle choice of intermittent fasting. For you, that mainly means I don't eat breakfast.

Other than that, as a roommate, I offer first-class cleaning skills, daily encouragement and communication skills in German, English, Russian and some Spanish.
