Dies ist eine längere Nachricht, die sich an Menschen in Bielefeld richtet.
Nicht nur(!), aber besonders an Alle, die in (Richtung) Sieker wohnen.

Leitet diese Nachricht gerne auch weiter an politisch aktive oder interessierte Menschen (und Gruppen), die ihr Leben & (Wohn-)Umfeld lieber gemeinsam, möglichst hierarchiefrei und mit gegenseitiger Hilfe gestalten wollen, anstatt alles „dem Markt“ zu überlassen ;)

zur Sache:
Direkt an der Haltestelle „Sieker Mitte“ (Linie 4) gibt es ein riesiges Grundstück, das bisher als britische Kaserne genutzt wurde und der Zivilbevölkerung seit über 80 Jahren verschlossen war:
Die Rochdale Barracks.
(Rochdale ist die britische Partnerstadt Bielefelds und „Barracks“ ist das englische Wort für „Kaserne“).
Das Gelände ist 9 Hektar (= 13 Fußballfelder) groß!
Darauf stehen 4 Häuser mit je dreieinhalb Stockwerken und ca. 25 Zimmern pro Etage, also ca. 300 Räume, die vorher als Büro- und Wohnräume genutzt wurden. Außerdem eine ebenerdige Mensa mit Großküche und Gemeinschaftsfläche, eine Turnhalle, eine riesige Halle für LKW-Reparaturen, etliche Garagen und Außenflächen mit ca. 70 Bäumen.


Die Stadt Bielefeld will das Gelände kaufen, um dort ein neues, autoarmes Quartier zu schaffen, das hauptsächlich dem Wohnen dient, aber auch mit einem Stadtteilzentrum, Kitas, Mehrgenerationen-Wohnen, Kulturzentrum und der Offenlegung des Lonnerbachs.

Diese Bauarbeiten werden aber erst in 5 Jahren oder noch später beginnen.
Deswegen diese Nachricht:

Denn bis dahin soll das Gelände zwischengenutzt werden – von und für die Nachbar*innen und anderen Bielefelder*innen, die sich dort einbringen wollen.
Noch scheint relativ unklar, wie diese Zwischennutzung aussehen könnte. Momentan wird ein Konzept dazu vom Bauamt der Stadt Bielefeld und dem „Autonomen Architektur Atelier“ aus Bremen erarbeitet. Dies ist aber noch nicht sonderlich konkret.
Die Stadt Bielefeld ist wohl relativ interessiert daran, dass das Gelände genutzt und belebt wird und offen für verschiedene Ideen und Konzepte dazu.

Seit einigen Tagen ist das Gelände jetzt erstmalig geöffnet und es gibt gemeinsame Dinner (Donnerstags 19 Uhr & Samstags 14 Uhr), geführte Spaziergänge über das Areal und durch die ehemals militärisch genutzten Gebäude (Mittwochs, 18 Uhr), sowie jede Menge Kultur:
Ausstellungen, Konzerte, Workshops und alles, was ihr selber dort machen wollt – kostenlos und für alle!
(Ermöglicht wird das Ganze vor Allem durch die tolle Arbeit von vielen lokalen Kunstschaffenden, FH-Studierenden und vielen weiteren Gruppen aus Bielefeld - und weniger dadurch, dass die Stadt Bielefeld sich im Vorhinein um faire Bezahlung und Anerkennung der Künstler*innen gekümmert hätte...)

Das Programm dieser einmonatigen "Residency | building common places" wird vom Kölner Netzwerk „Transurban“ veranstaltet und geht noch bis zum 11. September. Was ab dann mit dem Gelände passiert, ist noch unklar.

Mit dabei sind momentan auch knapp 10 Personen aus verschiedenen Ländern, die als Teil des Architektur-Kollektivs „orizzontale“ aus Rom eine „citadella“ mitten auf dem Gelände konstruieren – und alle herzlich dazu einladen, vorbeizuschauen, sich ihnen spontan anzuschließen oder auch selber ganz andere Dinge dort zu bauen: Werkzeuge und Material sind vor Ort.

Dann endet die „Transurban Residency“ und bisher ist unklar, was dann auf und mit dem Gelände passiert – Platz ist da. Jede Menge und zentral gelegen.
Lasst ihn uns nutzen, beleben und aneignen.

Kommt dafür gerne in den nächsten 3 Wochen vorbei, vernetzt Euch mit anderen Anwohnenden und schaut beim Info-Point vorbei, um über eure Ideen zur Zwischennutzung, eure Vorstellungen von städtischem Zusammenleben und darüber zu sprechen, was an diesem Ort entstehen könnte – wenn wir zusammen dafür sorgen, dass er ein Ort für viele & vielfältige Menschen wird – statt für Luxuswohnungen, Profite oder jahrelangen Leerstand!

EN +++ This is a longer message addressed to people in Bielefeld.
Not only(!), but especially to all who live in (or around) Sieker.

Feel free to forward this message to politically active or interested people (and groups), who prefer to shape their life & (living) environment together, as free of hierarchies as possible and with mutual aid, instead of leaving everything to "the market" ;)

what's this about:
Directly at the stop "Sieker Mitte" (tram line 4) there is a huge piece of land, which was previously used as British barracks and was closed to the civilian population for over 80 years:
The Rochdale Barracks.
(Rochdale is the British partner town of Bielefeld).

The area is 9 hectares big (= 13 soccer fields)!
On it stand 4 houses, each with three and a half floors and about 25 rooms per floor, which is about 300 rooms in total, which were previously used as offices and living quarters.
In addition, there is a ground-level cafeteria with a canteen kitchen and a communal area, a gym, a huge hall for truck repairs, several garages and outdoor areas with about 70 trees.


The city of Bielefeld wants to buy the site to create a new, low-car neighborhood there, mainly for housing, but also with a district center, daycare centers, multigenerational living, a cultural center and the opening up of the Lonnerbach stream.

But this construction work won't start earlier than in 5 years - or even later.


And that's the reason for this message:

Because until then, the area is to be used temporarily - by and for the neighbors and other Bielefeldees who want to get involved there.
It still seems relatively unclear what this interim use could look like. At the moment, a concept is being developed by the building authority of the city of Bielefeld and the "Autonomen Architektur Atelier" from Bremen. However, this is not yet very concrete.
The city of Bielefeld is relatively interested in using and revitalizing the area and is open to various ideas and concepts.

Since a few days the area is now open for the first time and there are joint dinners (Thursdays 7pm & Saturdays 2pm), guided walks over the area and through the former military buildings (Wednesdays, 6pm), as well as lots of culture:
Exhibitions, concerts, workshops, and anything you want to do there yourself - free and for everyone!
(The whole thing is made possible mostly due to the great work of many local artists, students and other groups from Bielefeld - and less by the fact that the city of Bielefeld would have taken care of fair payment and recognition of the artists in advance...)

The program of the one-month-residency "building common places" is organized by the Cologne network "Transurban" and runs until September 11.
What will happen to the site after that is still unclear.

At the moment there are also about 10 people from different countries who, as part of the architecture collective "orizzontale" from Rome, are constructing a "citadella" in the middle of the site - and who invite everyone to drop by, to join them spontaneously or to build completely different things there themselves: Tools and materials will be on site.

Then, the "Transurban Residency" ends and so far it is unclear what will happen afterwards - space is there. Lots of it and centrally located.
Let's use it, animate it and appropriate it.

Feel free to come by in the next 2 weeks, network with other residents and drop by the info point to talk about your ideas for interim use, your ideas for urban coexistence and what could happen at this place - if we together make it a place for many & diverse people - instead of luxury apartments, profits or years of vacancy!
