I am looking for a furnished room in a communal apartment for a short-term lease. I will be living in Mannheim from 11 May through 23rd August, for my internship at the BASF Agricultural Research Station. Since I will only be present for a short time, I cannot purchase any furniture or appliances during my stay. Therefore I really need an apartment that has a bed and dresser. Laundry in (or near) the apartment is also necessary.
I do need to live with roommates who speak (at least some) English. I know some simple phrases in German, but definitely could not communicate well with roommates who only spoke German. I am interested in practicing/learning German to be polite and respectful of my temporary home, though! My boss in the United States is from Germany, so I am somewhat familiar with some German customs and cultural attitudes.
I will take the S-bahn daily to Limburgerhof, so the only requirement for location is that the apartment be within 10 minutes walking of a bus that can take me to a station. Proximity to a grocery store would be very very nice, but is not required. Beyond that, I would be happy in any district or area of Mannheim, busy or otherwise.
I would ideally like to be able to spend some time hanging out, talking, and cooking with my new roommates. I don't have a significant preference about the number, age, or gender of my roommates, however, and I do not have allergies to pets or smoke. I will be very happy to become friends with anyone who is nice! I am not a strict vegetarian, but I do mostly eat meals without meat and am comfortable sticking to a vegetarian diet if that is "the norm" with my new roommates.
