Hello hello, I am currently looking for someone to take my spot in my lovely WG. I've recently decided to pack up my things and go travelling so my room (and some furniture) is now available. The flat is full of nationalities and different backgrounds so we are happy to open to the door to people from any background and culture. There are 5 others in the WG, plus a dog (yes, his name is Emil and he is a distinguished gentleman). While this is a lot, the flat itself is very spacious and since we are all operating on quite different routines (some work, some study), the flat never feels too busy, but it still maintains a nice level of activity.
Some details on the room and WG to begin with:
The room is 18m2 bedroom with a 3m2 balcony adjoined to it. While I think this is quite roomy if you don't think so, you'll be glad to hear that the common areas in the flat are quite large meaning it's always easy to find some space for yourself.
Most, if not all of the furniture in the pictures will be available to take. We can speak about a price for this later and agree on a plan that suits both of us.
As mentioned, the WG itself is incredibly well furnished and spacious. There is one large common area consisting of a living area, a well-equipped kitchen and a dining area. There is a balcony that runs around most the flat so everyone has there own dedicated outside space as well.
The flat is located in the newer part of the 2nd district, close to a number of nice amenities and transport connections. Regarding U-bahn, Vorgartenstraße U1 is only a 5 minute walk away, otherwise Praterstern is a 5 minute cycle or Handelskai which is a 10 minute cycle. There is also a number of closer tram connections including the O, 2 and 5 trams.
The flat is at it's best over the summer time, however, when cycling is the preferred means of transport. Then you see the true value of the location with the Donau Insel, Prater-park, Augarten and the Donau Canal all around a 5-10 minute cycle from the front door.
Other than this, there are supermarkets less that 2 minutes walk from the house, and a number of coffee shops and restaurants in the area as well.
As mentioned we are a lovely bunch of people form a broad range of backgrounds; Helena is Austrian and is currently doing an internship as part of her Master's degree in Bio-Medical science. Emil is Helena's pet dog, he doesn't talk much but he is the most charming and friendly of anyone in the house. Julian is our newest member, he comes from Germany and is studying environment and bio-resources management. Felicity is also currently doing an internship as part of her Bachelor's in computer science, she will soon start her masters degree at TU. She grew up in Nigeria, and is half Austrian so has lived here for some time. Then there is Theo, who is originally from France, who is currently working fulltime at a bar in Vienna. And that's it, only four people because we're are currently looking for two new flat mates.
As you can see we are comprising of many different nationalities, this is something that we love as it gives us a real insight in different cultures and backgrounds.
In general we speak either German or English in the WG but we have people fluent in Spanish, French, Igbo as well.
We have a lot interests in the group and share many values which we see as important for a strong WG:
- We try to have Open communication - we organize WG-dinners semi-regularly where we can chat about issues etc.
- Cleanliness/Tidiness - we have a clearly defined a cleaning rota
- Dog lovers - with living with a dog, we all try to take some responsibility for him by taking him on walks etc.
- Active lifestyle - we are interested in Sports and regularly go Bouldering and to the Gym
- Socialising - we do enjoy a drink
- Cooking - we are all pretty good cooks, the kitchen is often where we hang out together
- Plant lovers - we have many houseplants and in the summer we also tried to grow some vegetables
Some final things to note about the WG:
- There is Suana in the building
- Also a music room
- The WG is run by ÖSW so they will handle all contracts etc.
- Laundry room is also in building
