We search for a short-term renter to rent a room in our WG for 1 May --> 1 August (three months). Rent is 430 EUR / month 'warm' (so all costs included)
About the flat
In our flat we're trading individual room size for huge common spaces with a spacious living room, inviting flocks of lovely fellows to hang out (with a Hochbett for guests, a projector for movies, and multiple couches), a big bathroom with bathtub, a spacious 20m2 balcony (perfect for the summer). We have also have some instruments (piano, guitars...)
About the room
wooden floor, lofted bed with in-built stairs that also serve as a shelve, big window, private bathroom (with toilet, sink, and a little shower, but the flat also has a bigger bathroom that you can use), soundproofed. Furniture-wise, I would leave my desk and a little blue commode in the room while I am away.
About the building
cellar, elevator, and courtyard with bicyle stands
The apartment is located in the Leopoldstadt between Augarten and Prater. We live next to the Volkertmarkt, a great square between Augarten and Praterstern, a market with bread, fresh fruits/vegetables and cheese on Wednesdays/ the weekends! There is also a lovely neighborhood cafe and some public spaces to hang out.
The location is really conveniently located near trams (5, and 0) and u2 (Taborstrasse) + u1/u2 (Praterstern)
5 min bike ride to Prater
5 min bike ride to Augarten
10 min bike ride to the Donaukanal
15 min bike ride to the Donauinsel
About us
We're currently organizing our flat in a family-like way, sharing tasks evenly. We're trying to strike a balance between individual freedom and common quality time - which actually works very well!
We are Nathan, Carolina, Phillip and Leo (current subtenant for Iris who will come back in July). Some of us started the flat in December 2019 and have created a home together over the last years. Since 2019 some people have come and gone but we have always made an effort to keep the good and caring atmosphere amongst ourselves and making sure we are well organized :)
We cook mostly vegan, and sometimes vegetarian. We get our food from foodsharing and the foodcoop. We try to cook for everyone when we do cook. There is not a complicated 'cooking plan', but the expectation that we share food rather than having each our private shelves (not full fridge communism, but nearly). We have semi-regular plenaries to check-in on how we are doing overall and with the flat situation, how to organize things and avoid unfair task distributions or other frustrations from wg-life. We highly value open communication and until now, this has prevented us from bigger conflicts or uncomfortable situations.
Iris (German) studied Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy at the WU and is working as a campaigner at Attac. She likes to do Akroyoga and other fun activities outside in nature. Iris has been taking great care of our balcony and has been growing own fruits and veggies. At the moment, she is spending her Bildungskarenz in Latin America. She is coming back in July and will again take over her room from Leo.
Leo (German) studied in Dresden & London and moved to Vienna in September 2022 to study EPOG/ SEEP. Unfortunately, he will be moving out in July 2023 because of his studies. Leo is involved in climate activism, he likes chill evenings with yummi food, some music and/or movie. He is a great conversation partner for whatever kind of topic. From to time, Nathan and Leo have Fifa-matches against each other (just for fun).
Nathan (US-American) is doing his PhD at the WU on degrowth and strategies for social ecological transformation. Before starting his PhD, he also studied SEEP where he got to know Iris. Nathan loves bikes and does a lot of Fahrrad-Bastel, preferrably in the living room. But he also enjoys other activities in nature. He's a fan of pragmatic solutions and a great, caring flat mate to have around. He shares his passion about bikes with our other flatmate Philipp.
Philipp (German) recently moved in in November 2022. He works in the geography department of the Hauptuni Wien (yes, he was brave enough to move in as the only non-SEEPie of the flat and he is not regretting it so far!). Phillipp is a big fan of punkrock musik, bikes and chill evening after work. At the moment, he is exploring a new hobby: Puzzles. Sometimes, he also joins the Fifa-matches in the living-room, or a cigaretti with Carolina on the balcony.
Carolina (German/ Spanish) moved into the flat 2,5 years ago and has been studying SEEP at the WU as well. Since then, she has been bringing a special energy into the flat which we all enjoy. She likes doing sports (horse riding, yoga, jogging etc.), having long conversations with roomies (especially on our big balcony, with a beer and cigaretti) and spending time together in the flat for dinner, games, movie night or whatever may come up.
Everyone enjoys to cook and eat good food together, short update conversations in the kitchen, but also to spend more time on the balcony chatting together, and the occasional hike or board game together! Since we all have a quite busy lifestyle, we try to find a good balance between supporting each others in what we do (workwise and beyond), but also spending time with flatmates. We appreciate that expectations are clearly communicated and that everyone makes an effort to fit well into the overall WG-dynamic. :)
After finishing her master thesis, most likely in April 2023, Carolina will be spending 4 months outside of Austria (travelling/ holidays) and would like to take care of her room for that period. It is not clear yet if she will come back to the flat afterwards or move somewhere else. So, there is also a possibility to stay in the flat for longer, if all parties agree. Therefore, we rather search for a person that could also imagine living in the flat for longer than those 4 months.
About you: Write us and tell us a bit about yourself. Du kannst gerne auch auf Deutsch antworten! Wir haben die Beschreibungen zusammen (auf Englisch) gesammelt und deswegen der Einfachheit halber auf Englisch notiert ;-)
If you have any questions, feel free to write and ask! The exact dates of move-in and move-out are flexible :)
