English Text below! ;)
Our roommate Valerie is moving in with her boyfriend at the beginning of July – we’re sad to see her go but of course happy for her as well! – which means that we have a (fully furnished!!) room opening up in our relaxed, cozy 3-person WG from the beginning/middle of July.
Your future room would be 24 m2 with 3 large windows. Valerie can leave pretty much all of her furniture – bed, dresser, shelves – for a small fee, which would mean that you can pretty much move in just with your suitcase (and probably save a lot of money compared to furnishing the whole room yourself). The TV and writing desk are going with her though, and probably the sofa as well.
The kitchen already has just about everything you could need in a kitchen, though of course you’re welcome to add whatever specialty items you’d like (or really any cooking things you’d want to bring with you) to our collection. The kitchen also has a nice space for a good size dining table (which can fit about six people around it). Beyond that we have a very spacious hallway/foyer that we mostly use for storing things (including the printer and extra futon/bed, as well as our makeshift liquor cabinet); a comfortable bathroom with shower, plenty of cabinet space, in-unit washing machine, and a bathtub (which none of us have used in quite a long time, though you’re certainly welcome to revive its use); and a separate toilet.
The building is a charming old building (Altbau) in the 18th district, though it’s right on the borders with the 9th and 17th districts. The U6 tracks are visible from the apartment, and it’s only a few minutes walking from either the Alser Straße or Michelbeuern/AKH stops (Alser Straße is maybe a tiny bit closer than AKH). We’re also very close to the 42, 43, and 44 tram lines, which can get you to the University (Schottentor) or city center in around 10 minutes. There’s plenty of supermarkets within walking distance (Hofer, Interspar, Denn’s Bio, DM, etc.), and quite a few restaurants and bars around as well, especially since we’re overlooking the Gürtel.
Your future roommates would be Sina (23) and Brendan (26). Sina’s originally from Baden-Württemberg in Germany, and currently studies medicine at the MedUni Wien. She enjoys meeting friends over a matcha latte, going bouldering or to the movies, and cooking vegetarian or vegan meals. Brendan’s from San Diego, California, and originally moved out to Vienna to take part in an English teaching program, though now he’s (allegedly) writing his master’s thesis in Political Science at Uni Wien and working at the UN. He goes to concerts a soften as possible, especially at some of the dive bar punk and metal venues along the Gürtel, and is also an avid snowboarder that generally takes multiple trips out to the Alps in the winter. Beyond that he loves to watching baseball (when the time differences allow for a game to be on during normal waking hours) and spending time grabbing a drink with friends.
Within the apartment we tend to speak German, since German-speakers were in the majority, but we’re certainly open to any new roommate speaking either language – whichever one they’re more comfortable with might become the new “standard” language in the WG, since we’re both pretty flexible either way ☺
Since both of us are generally out at work and school most days of the week, it’s generally pretty quiet at the apartment during weekdays, unless one of us has taken a home office day. During the evenings and on weekends there’s a bit more going on, and we’ll generally meet in the kitchen to chat and catch up. We’ve had a pretty relaxed vibe between us – when time allows we certainly like to have some drinks together or cook a meal together or watch a film or something, but everyone’s also welcome to have their own privacy and alone time in their room whenever they need it.
If what we’ve written here sounds like a spot you’d fit into nicely, we’d love to hear from you! Just send us a message (through this WG-Gesucht post) introducing yourself a bit and telling us a bit about yourself. If we also think there might be a good fit then we can move forward with organizing a time to tour the apartment, which can also be done over Zoom or any other similar video calling program when necessary. We look forward to meeting you!
